iposthere
I've searched this forum trying to find info on making my SEL have the Sport Body. Thought it would be helpful to have it all in one place. I also have some open questions that i need help with. 1. Tuxedo Black Grill Inserts: There are 3 popular options a. Buy the OEM Ford Edge Sport primered grill inserts and paint them ($200-$300 cost painted) Part# BT4Z-8200-AA http://www.partscheap.com/2011-2014-Ford-Edge-Painted-Grille-Inserts-p/bt4z-8200-aa.htm b. You can PlastiDip your chrome inserts for under $10 c. You can Vinyl wrap chrome grill inserts with: 3M GLOSS Black Metallic G212 Scotchprint Car Wrap Vinyl Film 1080 Series (around $50) 2. Front Sport Lip : Part# BT4Z-17D957-CPTM http://www.levittownfordsupercenter.com/ford-edge-sport-front-spoiler-p-1104.html Cost is about $200 for the lip, then $100-$150 for a shop to paint it. small and easy part, I would just paint it myself for under $50. 3. Rear Bumper: The SEL and Sport both have the SAME top half of the bumper. But, the lower valance is different. I think i found the Part#, can anyone help me confirm this? Part# BT4Z17K835DPTM 4. Side Rocker Panels: Side Rocker Panels: There are two parts. First is the plastic attached to the door. I believe this is the SAME on the SEL and Sport, except the Sport has the plastic Painted. Next, there is the Rocker Panels (Side Skirts). I think i found the Part# for the Sport's Rocker Panels (Side Skirts). Can anyone help me confirm this? Part# BT4Z78101A04APTM & BT4Z78101A05APTM Saving Money: If you want a shop to paint these and save on the cost, (1) do them all at the same time, (2) Remove the parts and bring them to the shop. Removal take a while and it will cut down on the shops cost a good amount. If anyone notices any incorrect info, please let me know so I can correct it. I'll be postings pics as I go through the above Thanks! Edited January 14, 2015 by iposthere 2
PrinzII
If you have the White Pearl Tintcoat, you might want to factor in the cost of three stages of paint.
Cellbine
This thread is a good idea. I know that I would at least like to swap out my front lip on my Limited to the Sport version at some point in time. I just have other goals I need to meet first. akirby
You can get good results with rattle cans of the white platinum tri-coat. Includes base coat, midcoat and clearcoat. Got mine from paintscratch.com and used it to touch up a corner of the rear hatch that dear wife used to try and move a porch post. I'm not a pro but it was a passable blend job. Hey Cellbine, when you did your grill in vinyl, did you have to pull the bumper and remove the inserts? Any details would be helpful, trying to do this over the weekend. Thanks!
Cellbine
No, I didn't pull the inserts. But I just laid it over like a newb. Be sure to have a hairdryer or a heat gun handy to meld it into the curves or you will get bugs that hit and break the material when you drive later on. That is why I took it off. If you search, I have created a thread a while back about what I ran into when I removed my 3M wrap. I found it after a quick search: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11656-3m-stickerwrap-removal/?p=88760 Beware. But if you install it correctly, you won't have to remove it right? Good luck! Thanks for the info! How much of the vinyl did you need? Also, do you know where there are directions on removing the grill? I can only find video of people removing the whole front bumper. Not sure if that is needed to get the grills off or not. Thanks!
Cellbine
That was a few years ago, so I am unclear as to how much I ordered. I just took a measuring tape to it and bought a sheet a bit larger than the actual size of the whole grill insert area. That way if I messed up I could have a bit extra to use. You will need to remove the front bumper to access the insert tabs from behind it. You could probably get away with not taking the bumper all the way off and leaning it back, but I wouldn't personally do it that way. Be careful when removing the tabs, sometimes they can be a bit fragile and you want to avoid snapping one off. I did not have an easy time removing my inserts and I will probably just tap my inserts off when I PD then again.
