j45p3r
It seems the wipers on our 2011 Edge SEL (no auto wipers) are stuck on the slowest intermittent setting. They otherwise work fine but will not completely shut off. Anyone else run into this? I'm thinking I should replace the switch but figured I'd check in here for any insights. Thanks! thirdgenlxi
We see this quite a bit on 2011+ Explorers mostly, but also a couple Edges and Super Duty's as well...... it's the wiper switch. Over time internally the switch won't switch to the off position even though the physical switch is off
j45p3r
Thank you. I found the issue on Explorer forums but didn't see much on the Edges. Looks like they use the same part so I'll swap out the switch. Looks pretty straight forward.
thirdgenlxi
Oh yea it's easy.... just have I believe a T10 torx driver and you'll be all set.... just pop the column covers open and it's right there
enigma-2
Here's the procedure from the service manual: Removal and Installation 1. NOTE: Release the upper steering column shroud by pressing inward on the sides of the shroud and lifting upwards. Remove the upper steering column shroud.2. Release the tilt lever, remove the 3 lower steering column shroud screws and the shroud.3. Disconnect the multifunction switch electrical connector.4. Remove the 2 multifunction switch screws and remove the switch.5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. If you want to test it after removal, hold the switch so that the connector at the bottom right. Terminal #1 will be at top left, #16 is at the bottom right. When the switch is in the off position, measure between terminals #12 & #15 and it should be open (no continuity). (#12 is the low int connector). rwf78155
Isn't this Forum amazing.... that diagnosis and repair would have been $300 at a dealership
Michael Bradley DeHart
Anybody have the part # for the wiper switch that needs to be replaced on a 2013 Edge? I will tackle the work myself, the dealership wanted $90 just to diagnose the problem…unreal! Been having this issue for about 6 months now, I keep some pliers in my door panel and have been pulling the fuse so I don't like like a dope riding around on a sunny day with the wipers chopping away. Unfortunately, every time it starts to rain its seems to be when I am doing 75 on the highway and have no where to pull over and replace the fuse…then I am the dope riding around with no wipers! WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Seems there are 3 part numbers for them, depending on rain-sensitive wipers/power or automatic tilt steering column, etc. You can see the selection here: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/CatalogResults.aspx?y=2013&m=Ford&mo=Edge&initSearch=1&keyword=window%20wiper%20switch# 17A553 (SW-6963) Window Wiper Switch With Manual Tilt/Slide Stg Column ; Speed Sensitive Windscreen Wipers; Black Vehicle Build Date before: 5/31/2013 17A553 (SW-6964) Window Wiper Switch With Manual Tilt/Slide Stg Column ; Rain Sensitive Windshield Wipers; Black or With Power Tilt/Telescopic Strg Column 17A553 (SW-7037) Window Wiper Switch With Manual Tilt/Slide Stg Column ; Speed Sensitive Windscreen Wipers; Black Vehicle Build Date after: 6/1/2013 Edited April 29, 2015 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
AndyinMN
I replaced my wiper switch this weekend from a new one that I bought from the dealership $28 and everything works great and how its supposed to again. The dealership wanted to charge me my $100 deductible from our extended warranty so they could diagnosis what the possible issue was and how they will fix it. I advised that this is a known issue and that I wasn't going to pay them $100 to fix something that the part was less than $30... Glad I found this thread! Richardhead
I just had to deal with this issue, which caused me to find this forum To say that dealing with my Ford dealer and Ford Canada has been a nightmare is an understatement. The gist of it all is I had the intermittent wiper issue, which as has been shown in this forum, is caused by the faulty wiper arm. My 2013 Edge was purchased in October of 2012 and I made my appointment to have the issue looked at on Sept 28 2015, and the dealer scheduled me in for October 2nd, 8 hours after my warranty expired. The "service desk" clerk said oh sorry we can't cover that it's not under warranty, and I told him well you scheduled me in for this time so cover it, all I got in return was sorry you can pay for the service today and we will gladly look at it for you. Flash forward to today, after dealing with Ford Canada over the issue, I end up paying 140 for the replacement. Wish I found this Forum earlier, But more importantly I wish I never purchased a ford. This combined with 3 other issues I've had with a vehicle with 35000 kms has been an absolute joke. To say DONT BUY A FORD EDGE would be a drastic understatement. JeffRow
My wife's 2013 has this problem. Glad I found this thread. Called the dealer for the part and it's $41.16.
