xplorgee
Well, after all the troubles Ive had with my Edge and 40+ days in the shop in the last 8 months, Ford said theyll buy my car back. Has anybody been through this process and how does it work. Is it just a replacement or pretty much just like buying a new car with credit for the old car? Im curious. bbf2530
Well, after all the troubles Ive had with my Edge and 40+ days in the shop in the last 8 months, Ford said theyll buy my car back. Has anybody been through this process and how does it work. Is it just a replacement or pretty much just like buying a new car with credit for the old car? Im curious. Hi xplorgee. :D It can work in various ways. They will sometimes deduct a mileage penalty, sometimes not. They will sometimes basically swap it for a similarly equipped model of the same year, if still available, sometimes you have to negotiate the price of the new vehicle. If you had a 2007 (which you obviously must have) and there is no suitable 2007 available, you have the added confusion of a new model year vehicle being involved. Since all of the above is just some of what needs to be dealt with, you should ask the Dealer Representative, and the Ford Representative as to how they are going to handle your particular case. The best you can get here is one of us guessing as to how they "might" handle your case. Or you will get someone swearing that their car was bought back by Ford, and they know exactly how your case will be handled (when every case is different, and Lemon Laws vary from State to State). Really, it is best that you ask those you will be dealing with at the Dealer and at Ford. Only they can give you the correct answers. Please let us know how it works out. Good luck! :beerchug: Edited December 21, 2007 by bbf2530
xplorgee
I guess well just have to see how it works out. I appreciate your help. I hope it works well. I know they dont have any 07s on the lot so I guess it would be a comperable 08. I might upgrade for the premium with sync and nav. Well see. Has anybody gone through this process with an Edge. Im sure im not the only one.
cmccarthy
Ford bought back my 2003 Mach 1 after it developed an engine problem. They simply multiplied the mileage at the time the problem was first reported (~3200) by something like $0.20 and then refunded the me the purchase price minus the mileage calculation. They included interest I had paid as well as the cost of my window tint.
xplorgee
That would be nice if they paid interest. I was told by a manager that they will just use the MSRP of my vehicle and then just add the difference of whatever ill get. Well see. I also have some aftermarket stuff on it that Ill need to take out. Hopefully theyll let me do that or just give me what I paid for it. xplorgee
Thats good that your car was taken care of. My process lasted about 3 weeks including the holiday week when nothing gets done. Pretty good turn around time. Got me a premium with all the goodies. Even got the hitch I wanted. Pretty good turn around time. Got me a premium with all the goodies. Even got the hitch I wanted. My Lincoln MKX has been in the shop for over 45 days (including one long stay of 35 days) I have had 3 rental cars. It is having trans problems and other minor things (oil leak, windows, ect...) How did you go about getting Ford to replace your Edge? Did you just get in touch with customer service or did you have to go the "Lemon Law" route? I would really like to get mine replaced if possible, but not with alot of hassle. Thanks Scott
xplorgee
There are lots of lemon law sites with different states laws. Id first complain to the service manager. Then he might tell you what to do. Id say call the Ford helpline. I dont know what the number is. Tell them what the problem is and escalate. Also demand what you want and see if it comes true. 45 days, maybee lemon law. Good luck.
cmccarthy
I just looked up a Lemon Law specialist on http://www.lemonlaw.com/ and let him do the work. It cost me $250 (which is tax deductible) and about 3 hours on the phone spread out over 4 or 5 calls. It took about 6 weeks from the initial consultation until I turned the car in. Laws vary by state and your results may differ, but thats how it went for me. One word of advice is to keep all of your service records, as well as a printed copy of your car's OASIS report. This assigns dates and times to your complaint, which is invaluable.
LarrysEdge
It's been 16 years, but yes I've been through this in the states. I bought a 1991 (or 02, I forget now) Red Bronco Eddie Bauer. The full size one. Took her home, and washed it that next weekend. The red paint flowed off the drivers door and onto the ground. I kid you not. What was starting to appear through the red paint all over the truck. I've heard of hard water, but jeez Anyway, I took it in and the service manager looked at. He said "I can offer to re-paint the truck, and extend your warranty to 100,000 miles" I said no things, I don't want a 4 day old truck that needs a repaint. He said he understood that, he just had to make the offer. He started the buy-back paperwork right then and there. The whole thing took about two weeks. I got every penny invested in the truck back, AND I was offered any new vehicle on the lot I wanted at true factory cost price (not dealer cost). I ended up with a new Eddie Bauer Explorer, close to $30,000 worth (which back then was about all you could spend) for about $20,000. I somehow think it ain't that easy these days -Larry Well, after all the troubles Ive had with my Edge and 40+ days in the shop in the last 8 months, Ford said theyll buy my car back.
