NexusFFO
I did a search and found a few products.... are they worth the $300+ price? Has anyone here installed this mod on their Edge? Thanks.

TheWizard
I had the LockPick 2 in my '13 Edge. It does provide some extra features that are useful and some that are foolish. It can be very useful to allow the passenger to program the GPS while moving. It would be very foolish (not to mention illegal) to run videos while driving. Adding a front camera was helpful for parking at first but after a while you get used to the vehicle and parking is less trouble even though you can't see the front corners so the front camera got used less and less as time went on. Being able to turn on the rear camera in any gear is just an interesting feature with no practical use unless you're towing a trailer. One "gotcha" that is important to remember... the device allows activation of things that normally can't be done while moving by turning off the speed input to the head unit. That means the GPS is no longer aware of your motion. Several times we would activate the LockPick to add a waypoint along our route and forget to deactivate it again so it never informed us when we passed the exit. Basically you can't have the LockPick active and use navigation routing at the same time. Was it worth $350? Not to us. We didn't use it often enough to justify that cost. However, now that we got rid of the Edge, I have that LockPick 2 for sale at half price... $175 including shipping if you're interested. If you don't plan to add more cameras, it's a simple plug-and-play installation (adding the front camera was a lot of work).
akirby
Just doesn't seem worth the cost and trouble just to be able to put in a destination without stopping since you can also use voice input while moving. And ditto on watching videos.
NexusFFO
Well guys, here is my reason for considering it; you will agree. I have this Mobile DVR Unit that has 4 Video cameras that record, broadcast, and logs all telemetry. I can log into car remotely from anywhere, it has two way audio and real-time video feed along with remote triggers, using 4G cell. Now to integrate this as I had it in my previous cars. The unit has a monitor output that I would connect to my Av input on my head unit. This displays all 4 cameras record while driving and the front bumper FLIR camera can be displayed on the head unit for up to 1 mile of heat signature. This the reason I ask about this. Now I don't like what has been said about how it may cause issues with some navigation features. I am looking for something to disable the lockout. back in the day it was easy as grounding the hand break or tricking the VSS. any ideas? thanks

TheWizard
The LockPick only disables navigation tracking for navigation input. As far as I know, you can use its camera functions with no impact on navigation. However, I'm not sure about your setup. The LockPick has four camera inputs but they are designed for specific uses. There are two rear camera inputs - a primary for the back of the vehicle and an auxiliary for something like on the back of a trailer. And there are two other camera inputs - one can be used for front camera input or both can be used for left/right side cameras. I think you could probably just pick one of the inputs since your device multiplexes the four images and doesn't actually need four independent inputs to the display. I am rather curious as to why you feel you need to have cameras all around your vehicle.
NexusFFO
I am rather curious as to why you feel you need to have cameras all around your vehicle. This is why http://youtu.be/f_y6rDRXaBs I live in Miami, people here do NOT know how to drive. I guess K-Mart had a blue light special on drivers licences Miami is a melting pot of non-us residents and increasing. The accident in the above video would of been a my word against her word battle lasting months to close the claim since it was a total loss. The lady had the same insurance provider I did and she told them that it was my fault, I was speeding. So when I sent in the video capture. It contradicted everything she said happened and the claim was resolved in a matter of days. Since i have a solar panel, the DVR recorded 24/7 with ability to remote log in to watch my car in bad areas. Besides all that, it has proven cops wrong when pulled over for so called speeding, and I have captured some crazy DUI's with it. I work in downtown Miami a block away from a very very bad HOOD. better safe then sorry. And the FLIR, well that's just good to have when driving in the everglades or if parked somewhere blacked out getting my groove on lol But yes, the dvr is just one RCA output for the 4 screens. I wish there was an easier way of bypassing the safety on the edge. Here a DUI http://youtu.be/EpgIAC3k2LM?t=1m2s Here is the FULL GUI DISPLAY with Telemetry http://youtu.be/yQc8MykYcPA thanks for your input in this thread. I have much to think about now.. ... lol
pjazzz
Seems like a lot of money just to prove an accident isn't your fault. A lot of the times the police can reconstruct the accident enough to determine fault. How much is a system like that?

Not at all, the insurance company told me it could of taken a few months to close the claim, However, its not an expensive unit, it cost about $400. its called a MOB4. I beta test for various CCTV companies and help improve their products. Plus Miami is a crazy place with high crime. it was more for security Edited January 25, 2015 by NexusFFO
