i have a 2012 edge se fwd and i've decided that once the tax return comes in i'm going to put a set of 22" wheels and tires on it. can the TPMS be transfered from the stock wheels to the aftermarket wheels? or if i buy a set of sensors, which type do i need, the band type (read this is for 2010 and older?) or the valve stem type? i'd like to get this figured out so i can have the correct sensors on hand if need be when the day comes to do the upgrade. thanks

If you are keeping the stock wheels, good idea to buy a new set of sensors (esp since sensors have batteries that wear out after 5-7 years). You will need stem type sensors that operate at 315 MHz per

Nice reading from Motorcraft on how to mount/dismount tires from wheels with stem style TPMS:

i saw all of those on ebay and that was what i was looking at. is there any advantage to getting the ford sensors over the nonford? i wont be keeping the stock wheels and the tires are shot so i was planning on having the tires removed and just sell the stock wheels, so i would have access to the stock sensors during the process. is there any risk of damaging the sensors during removal and re-install?
