trockli
My 2011 Ford Edge 2011 did not come with the remote start. However, I believe it would have been a factory option. What are my best options to a add a remote start? How about the iphone vs. RF key option?
TRMN8TR
I have the ford remote access remote start (smart phone start) in my 2014 edge and love it. I did the install myself in 20 minutes, pretty much plug and play. There is a yearly subscription fee of $50 bucks. The system I installed fits 2011-2014 edges and a few othe Ford vehicles
trockli
Forgot, that there is a subscription fee. What options do I have for a RF starter? The car has an empty space where the remote start button would be. Not sure if the key can be retrofitted or if I need a new key or just go with a fob? I'm looking into this now and having smart phone access would be awesome! Thanks, -Russ
TRMN8TR
Russ, here is the remote access kit I bought. http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=350950539631 You will also need the antenna ($25-30), and hood switch ($15-20) since you don't have a remote access currently installed in your car. You can install all this yourself, it's very easy. Here are the installation directions, scroll down to the edge directions and it will also give you the part numbers to the antenna and hood switch. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/ford_content/catalog/accessory_files/2011-2013%20Remote%20Access_Truck3-15-2013.pdf Once you're done you will need to go to your ford dealer to do 2 things: 1) turn on the remote start option on your edge (check to see what they charge for this) 2) activate your remote access
RustyEdge
Thanks a lot! I wonder how much Ford would charge to turn the option on. It's looking more like a $500 option plus the yearly subscription but having the app would be awesome but gotta see. Definately going to keep an eye on ebay to maybe find a unit for a little chepaer and do some parts digging! -Russ

trockli
So, let me see if I understand my options for a 2011 Ford Edge: Option #1: Ford "regular" RF Remote Start System - 100 Series Plug-N-Play Part No: BC3Z-19G364-A http://accessories.ford.com/remote-start-system-rpo-plug-in-play-kit.html The start button is integrated in the key. Questions: - Do I need to have the new key cut to match my current one? - I am assuming I need to go to a Ford dealer to program the key? and the remote start? Or can I do this myself over phone or so? Option #2: Ford "long range" RF Remote Start System - Long Range Plug-N-PlayPart No: CL3Z-19G364-A http://accessories.ford.com/kit-remote-starter.html Option #3: Ford "smartphone start" cellular Remote Access Part No: DL3Z-19A390-B (replaces part DL3Z-19G364-A) http://accessories.ford.com/aerial-asy-10667.html Will require a $60 annual subscription Questions: - Does this require in addition the Vehicle Security Kit 19A361 for a Ford 2011 Edge? Instructions: http://www.fordservicecontent.com/ford_content/catalog/accessory_files/2011-2013%20Remote%20Access_Truck3-15-2013.pdf Option 4: Viper Not sure what part number. Several options Maybe not-plug&play Note: All options require the hood switch as well (BT4Z-19G366-A) General question for all options: - Can all the options installed DIY? Is there an activation procedure that requires a dealer? - Which install is the easiest? o Option 1: do I need to open the middle console only? o Option 2: does this require to install an antenna in the cargo area? gary712
all ford remote start units require dealer activation.they are all easy if you know what you are doing.if not leave it to a professional. all ford units require an antenna in cargo area. console does not have to be touched
TRMN8TR
I installed the ford remote access smart phone system myself. Took me 20 minutes then had my dealer activate it at no charge. $50 yearly subscription fee.
trockli
TRMN8TR Do you recall what part numbers you purchased? DL3Z-19A390-B and the Vehicle Security Kit 19A361? Also, was there an antenna involved in the cargo area?
candurin
I'm still trying to figure this out as well... For a 2011-2014 edge with regular key ignition do you need: Antenna, hood switch, security system? Way too many options and accessories to choose from... trockli
Thanks. This helps. Updated post #9. Need to find the part number for the antenna for kit DL3Z-19A390-B. Is it DA8Z-15603-A? Edited December 14, 2014 by trockli
candurin
Trockli, I am researching this as you are (maybe we will figure this out). DL3Z-19G364-A is the "Remote Access Kit" DL3Z-19A390-B is the "RMU Kit - USA" In TRMN8TR's post (the one you linked to) he purchased the -A kit and the instructions he linked to say the kit should include the antenna. However the photos do not show the antenna on the eBay auction. I'm making myself more confused.

You will need to purchase DL3Z-19G364-A plus the antenna plus the hood switch Edit, my edge came with a factory remote start so I didn't need the antenna and hood switch. The loom for the hood switch should be plugged into a dummy plug Edited December 14, 2014 by TRMN8TR

trockli
Still trying to figure out the parts list as well. Even Ford dealers' parts departments appear to have a hard time with this. The parts departments are trying to avoid this and gave me phone numbers to call.... Are there any Ford employees on this Forum who could help? Edited December 18, 2014 by trockli

trockli
It appears so. There are some threads that indicate that some Edge's have it installed while not having a remote option. I couldn't figure out if my Edge has the Vehicle Security Kit: DT4Z-19A361-A. If anyone knows how to test or to verify, please let me know
