bigmoguls
'07 mkX FWD. Doing about 75 (A/C on), cruise on the mkX transmission will downshift (or disengage the torque converter) going over a highway overpass. Anyone else have similar behavior of the transmission hunting for the right gear. Scott.
Good_Hands
You are the first person on this board to talk about transmission problems. I'm stunned that this has come up. Just when I thought the Edge was perfect in every way.
capnkirk52
sounds normal to me... going over mountain passes here in colorado, the tranny has to hunt quite often.

On a mountain pass I would expect it, but a 20 foot tall highway overpass?
CreamEDGE.
Well given how porky our cars are, this is totally normal, it as to maintain the speed you set it at as well, if you we're in control of the throttle I'm positive things would have been different. Going on a downgrade on cruise control at 60 mph it from time to time will down shift a couple of gears where the rpm will top out to 3500 On climbing a twisty grade it will hunt to find a gear and can either under rev or over rev for a couple of seconds. My previous cars like my 2005 Ford Escape just picked out a lower gear and stuck to it smoothly. Did Ford goof on this new type transmission?? S.P. 07 MKX
Shirly you've notice how the thing seems to really free-wheel, on level surface and no gas. So that's why it picks up speed on a slight downhill and will shift down, to try to maintain your set speed. They probably should have put a warning in the owners manual about this one too. irishtom
It's not a problem, it's the way the thing works. Sensibly too. And the trans is so smooth and the ratios so close I hardly notice the downshift unless I'm looking at the tach.
