System Check:oil pressure low

Hi,

I got my 2008 Edge, AWD, Limited for about 2 weeks now. So far like it, the handle, driving and the brake is working very good. :yup:

There is a strange thing confuse me a lot:

When the engine is not start, under the Driver Controls. I did a System Check, it give me a warning: Oil Pressure Low.

But when the engine is start, I did a same test, no warning at all, everything is perfect. Also, the little Engine Oil light in the Instrument Cluster is not comming out when driving.

I checked the engine oil, it is within the range, but in the low end.

Should I warry about it?

If I understand you correctly, when the "oil pressure low" warning comes on the engine is not running. Since the engine is not running, there would be zero (0) oil pressure since no oil is being pumped through the engine. When the engine is running, you get no warning about the oil. You get the warning only because the engine is not running. Perfectly normal. You will want to monitor your oil consumption as it is normal for a new engine to use a little oil when brand new until it gets broken in.

Not everyone is in tune with how things work. I had a good buddy in high school who bought his first car (used) for college. About a semester and a half later, he was driving to school when the engine locked up on him. It seems as if he had run the car out of oil. He did not realize that his car had oil or that he should check it. He had never opened the hood of his car. All he ever did was put gas in it because that is all he thought had to be done. He got mad at me when I was incredulous towards him when he told me what had happened. Yes, this is a true story. No one should ever look at a question someone here asks as being unbelievable or a set up, unless it comes from one or two posters who shall remain nameless.

Not everyone come to this Forum knows how everything works. I ask question because I believe people here are willing to help.

I also suggest Ford better put a little note in the User Manual about this "Low Oil Pressure" warning when engin is not running.

First vehicle you've ever driven huh? I bet you get a lot more light's on what is called your instrument panel than just that oil can light.

Well, of course your low oil pressure light will come on when the engine is not running. There isn't any oil pressure when the engine is off. A lot of other little colorful lights will come on when the engine isn't running, either. It's when the engine is running that you have to worry if the low oil pressure light comes on.

I suggest you read the owner's manual before you drive anymore. That explains a lot of features and functions of your vehicle. I still really think someone is just pulling a prank. No one could be this, ah, uninformed!

I read the mannal completely before ask. You may think this shouldn't be a question, but not for everybody.

OK, if you don't want to help, please don't reply. This forum should't be a place where someone make fun of other because he/she know more.
