blitz118
I don't see too many similarities, but the guage cluster looks identical to the one in Edge concept. I'm not sure why Ford didn't give the Edge the same gauges, but instead just lifted the interior from the Fusion and put it in the Edge.I'm going to wait to see what the production 2016 MKX looks like before I do anything. Lincoln will put the features I'm looking for into the MKX as the MKC has some of them now. Edited November 21, 2014 by blitz118
akirby
Edge has the Fusion dash, not Focus. Which makes sense because they share a platform. Explorer is on D4 which is separate and has its own dash design.

I don't see a reason to carry over the Fusion and old generation Edge gauges to the 2015 Edge. The Edge concept had the same gauges as the 2016 Explorer and 2014 MKC. I am not sure what platform the Edge concept was on, but I think it was probably the Fusion platform. I think the 2016 MKC will not carry over the gauges from the 2011-2014 MKC. The MKC production version will not be shown until next and I can't wait to see what Lincoln comes up with as the MKC is a good looking SUV, but it too small for my taste. There is also no mistaken a Lincoln MKC or MKX for another vehicle. omar302
These gauges were first available in the 2013 MKZ (Lincoln's Fusion). And on the 2016 Explorer, it's only on the Platinum trim. Other trims have the same older gauges, maybe only having the speedometer symmetric (zero on the left & top speed on the left vs. today's zero on the bottom). It has nothing to do with the platform, they can all use the newer, seems to be a cost and /or a marketing issue.

I figured it had nothing to do with the platform, but the moderator mentioned the platform. The gauges were on the Edge concept, and I don’t know why they did not include in the production version, but it is what is. I will be waiting for the 2016 MKX as I think it will check a lot of my must haves.
akirby
Aha - now it makes sense. I didn't realize the edge concept had those gauges too. With the rumors of an Aviator return I think the Platinum Explorer is really the Lincoln Aviator until we get a real Aviator so it makes sense that it gets the upgraded gauges like the MKZ and MKC. I'd love to see Ford consolidate the gauges in the Focus/Escape/C-Max and Fusion/Edge. I hate going back and forth between them.

In the past all vehicles on a platform shared the gauges/steering wheel, etc. Focus, Escape, C-max e.g. Fusion and Edge. It's simply cheaper to use the same gauges on vehicles from the same platform. With Lincoln they made a conscious decision to do a different cluster even on the MKC. So it's not a requirement that they use the same gauges but that's how it's typically done within different Ford models e.g.

The gauges are not in the production version, and they decided to use the same gauges from the 2011-2014 Edge in the 2015 Edge. Like I said it is what is, and I'm moving on to the 2016 MKX. It really has to do with the electrical architecture, not the platform.
akirby
Well that's confusing. I assumed the platform dictated the electrical architecture.
