brantlyj
I have a 2008 Edge Limited AWD. I'm having a problem with the transmission. When I shift from park into gear it will not go. press the gas and the engine revs up. It will move a little but not more than a walking pace. Only way to correct it is to turn the car off and then on again. Sometimes this needs to be done several times. This is very, very intermittent so it's not something I can take to the shop. It will go for months without issue. I'm sure it's just a sensor or solenoid but not sure what? Anyone have a similar issue and found the solution? akirby
Check engine light on? If so check the code. Could be the TCM.
brantlyj
nope, no CEL and no code.
akirby
How old is the battery? Long shot but weak batteries can cause strange problems.
brantlyj
bought it used in 2011. The dealer replaced the battery before we bought it from them
akirby
I've almost never gotten more than 3 years out of a battery. If it was me I'd change it if you get any more problems just to be safe.
thirdgenlxi
Possibly the TSS/OSS sensors.... though those usually set a code. Have you checked the fluid level and condition??
Camshaft
I am not a ford guy. But, have you tried to wiggle the shift knob then try driving? Possibly a park/drive switch that may be the cause?
brantlyj
I had hoped to have a resolution to this. I had to bring it in for a PTU leak. They claimed there were tests that can be done. All they did was drive it around. So I'm no farther than where I was this morning. *sigh*
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Were they testing the TSS/OSS sensors or something else, do you know? PTU leak fixed? EDIT: Corrected a misstatement re: yr of Edge for OP. Edited September 30, 2014 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
brantlyj
All they did was take it for a test drive. Since they could not replicate the problem they did nothing further. As for the leak the deal was replaced at 61,000 miles. Now at 76,000 they claim it overheated and is leaking from the case and the entire unit needs to be replaced. Ford covered the leak under goodwill the first time. They wouldn't even ask ford for assistance this time. Considering it started leaking immediately after the seal replacement I feel they screwed up something. I am not pleased at the moment. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If you feel you have reached a dead-end with your dealer, maybe Todd or Tricia of Ford Customer Service can help. There may be a possibility that PTU fluid replacement could keep it going for some time, but we don't know why it is leaking. Is it the PTU overheating, or is it transmission fluid leaking into the PTU then being vented? What color was the leak? Brownish or reddish? If clearly brown, it is likely PTU fluid, if red, transmission fluid.

Defiantly gear oil. It's definatly blowing out the vent. I'm not sure it's exactly overheating but I can't offer a better reason. After some searching here it's not that uncommon for this to happen it seems. I guess we will see how it all plays out. If Ford in unable to offer any relieve I will probably replace the PTU myself. I can't afford $800 in labor.
