Any word on the next MFT software update?

Recommended Posts

But to be fair...The web site claims "NEW SOFTWARE update" & it is from over 1 year ago 8/13- so not new & not user friendly as you sign in through out the past 13 months...

and to my point in the other thread there is a TSB on the ambient light issue introduced back from the 8/13 update that was just released this week. I do not want a dealer stop for that to find out in a short period of time the new version ( that incorporates that fix) is out,....& the dealer wasted billable warranty hours & my time

A major MFT update is long overdue!

I've got a 2013 Edge Ltd. with some pretty bad nav. mapping. As an example, major routes are there for a while and then disappear following an intersection or town. These are U.S. routes. and not local roads that I'm talking about. Also, the detail when zoomed out shows almost no intersecting roads. This renders the map almost useless unless you zoom in to 1/4 mile scale, and that makes seeing what may be coming up in a few miles unusable. It would be my hope that after over a year without an update that Ford would make some major improvements in the poor mapping along with other overdue MFT changes.

I can get along without the speedo. and altitude readout that almost any other nav. system has, but the sparse mapping is a real pain. Right now I'm ready to go out and buy a Garmin portable to give me the info. and resolution that I'm used to -- for $39!

What you're talking about has nothing to do with MFT. The nav data is all part of the SD card, the MFT update won't change that. The visibility of the roads is also not a MFT thing, it's an industry standard protocol that determines which categories of roads are visible at which zoom levels. You would likely find that any other automotive navigation systems is exactly the same. Garmin doesn't have to meet the same standards though since they are portable devices.

The fix for the ambient lighting involves the configuration settings, not the software. Configuration settings stay the same no matter which software level you have, so get the ambient light fix now, the software update won't fix it.

BTW, the update was just made available for my Fusion today.

Waldo thanks for the info ...TSB detail will help my dealer since they had raised the same question as I did & we did not do last week ....

I'll recheck later or in next few days but as of 1 hr ago update not there yet for me....;(

Any location link you can provide that will give an overview of what changes with the update? What new feature is included? Or more importantly what -if any- feature is taken away ?

As mentioned I got success with iphone 6+ with 3.6.... Should I expect same success with new software- ie pairing, phone calls, texts, bt stream, ?

OK wish list the nav lat/long direct input & the phone contacts to send as destination in nav?

Waldo- so since MFT 3.7 is out & you said it is avail for your fusion- can your share what is new with mft 3.7 compared to 3.6. What may have been removed ? Is this the new operating system or is that still in the works...

Where any of the key owners issues addressed- Applink, contact destinations to nav, Direct input Lat/Long, music counter,

Hi, Waldo

Well, if the SD card content is different from MFT updating, then OK I can accept that's the case. What I can't accept is Ford selling me a nav. system with mapping in 2013 that is so poor that major U.S. highways are half there and half not there. That info. was all there on my first primitive Garmin m/c nav. system back in 1997!!

And if the SD card update comes from Ford, none of the Ford "accessories" that I find is a map update; I just had the Edge in for a recall check and no one told me about the option of updating the map. Garmin sells me a lifetime update that gives me new info. I download about every nine months or so, but Ford offers me nothing.

If you're saying I've got to go to Ford for an SD card update, then OK...but I'm not confident that the update will be any better than the half-baked mapping I got just last October. And when I've "bought the farm", so to speak, to get an update that's equally poor do I tell them to take it back?

Unhappily thus far...

You can find everything you'd need to know about the maps at www.here.com. Follow the shopping tab and it will explain to you the update process. You can also check their maps to see how they are mapping the roads in your area.

Waldo,

I thought the SD card maps were from Navtek (software by Telenav). www.here.com appears to be a Nokia company. When did this change, or did I misinterpret your post?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navteq

NAVTEQ was an American Chicago-based provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and a major provider of base electronic navigable maps. The company was acquired by Nokia in 2007/2008, and fully merged into Nokia in 2011 to form part of the HERE business unit.
