WWWPerfA_ZN0W
There's no set interval for MAF cleaning/check. If you want to be preventive, since you are running a K&N, maybe do it every 30,000 miles (normal filter change interval)? Definitely do it shortly AFTER you clean/oil the K&N just in case any excess gets stuck on there. IMHO.

akirby
no its not. Ā Personally I wouldn't mess with it unless there is a problem. It's a pretty sensitive part.
Bryan003
I cleaned it and my idle is about 200rpm lower throttle response is better and i noticed a little differance in mpg.
akirby
So it was malfunctioning, just not enough to be obvious.

akirby
I wonder if that explains some folks who are having problems and/or poor fuel economy.

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Would be nice if these results hold over time!
sixponies
As long as you only use MAF cleaner on it, you can clean it as often as you so desire. Last night, I changed my oil/filter, cleaned the MAF sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. Throttle response seemed a little better this morning on the way to work. I'm going on a road trip this weekend, so hopefully I'll see a bit of an improvement in MPG. Of course, that's largely dependent on the weight of my right foot!
