Phone Issues

Recommended Posts

OK, you guys, please be kind to an "old guy" who stumbles with all this new electronic stuff (lol). I just traded my 2009 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition for a brand new, absolutely loaded Edge. There is so much electronic stuff on the Edge that I can scarcely remember the tutoring that the dealer gave me when I took delivery....but I sure do remember being impressed with everything that it can do! Anyway, the Explorer had Microsoft Synch on it, and the dealer had programmed my cell phone to work well with that system. BUT, my cell phone is an older model and does NOT have Bluetooth capability. The new dealer was NOT able to get it to work on my new Edge! Does my phone have to have Bluetooth to work in the Edge (which would mean new phone time) or can it be made to work a different way with the "MyTouch" system? Seems like a simple problem, but I can't seem to get anywhere with solving it. Anybody out there that can teach an old dog some new tricks about this issue? Also, is there something about having a Bluetooth capable phone that enables other features of the My Touch system? Help!!

Hi carjock,

Congrats on your new Edge! In order to use SYNC, you have to have a phone with Bluetooth. Here's a link to our compatibility chart if you decide to get a new phone:

Without a phone paired, you will not be able to make and receive hands-free phone calls, run a Vehicle Health Report, use SYNC Services, or enable 911 Assist. Here are links to those features so you can read up on them:

Let me know if you have any other questions!
