samf727
Hi all. Edge seems to be in mostly working order, apart from some cheap interior bits that have broken, including rear air vent controls, power plug covers, and door panels rattling. I notice the edge seems a bit down on power, and the transmission is not shifting as smoothly or quickly as it used too, even after a $200 oil change and transmission flush at my local Ford dealer. Does anyone have any suggestions of routine maintenance or things I should be doing to my Edge at this point in it's life? Or any key upgrades that could help out some of these problems/concerns? Thanks.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Good questions! What kind of driving have you done/do you do (city, highway, etc.)? Does it fit under normal or severe duty conditions? I would look up the mfr recommended service intervals accordingly. If you are concerned enough to have a trans flush done, I'd say that you are a prime candidate for 2 oldies but goldies: 1. air filter and 2. spark plugs. The Motorcraft parts are just fine, no need to look to aftermarket. After every oil change, dump in a bottle of Techron Fuel Injector cleaner into the fuel tank prior to fillup. This will help loosen deposits that don't get removed by additives in the gas you normally pump in. The MAF may also be a candidate for cleaning with MAF Sensor Cleaner (not carb cleaner or brake cleaner). Also make sure your PCM/TCM (engine/trans computer) calibrations are up-to-date. That can make a significant difference as well. I am seeing a lot of problems lately caused not so much by core hardware as by computers/faulty sensors, out-of-date software versions, etc. HTH.
