trom
I have driven the 2007 MKX and felt that it was a rough ride on the highway and over city streets. I also noticed a wind noise at speeds in excess of 50 mph. I believe that the 2008 can be purchased with the 20 inch tires. Does anyone have actual knowledge if the 20 inch tires create a quieter and smoother ride. Has anyone noticed wind noise from the driver's side window on the 2008. Our 2007 has a smooth, quiet ride and no wind noise at all. With the cross winds we experience in West Texas, we would certainly know about it if things didn't seal properly. The only quality issue we have found so far is that the front passenger side door is slightly misaligned with respect to the leading edge of the back door. We are running the standard size tires and the ride is far superior to our old Durango. You might have driven an MKX with problems.
brantyca
I have had my '08 MKX for 2 weeks and just returned from a trip to our cottage north of Toronto. The ride is extremely smooth and very quiet. I have the Limited Monochrome AWD vista roof model and it comes with 20" Pirelli's. I have not noticed excessive tire noise - it is much quieter than our previous Freestyle which had Pirelli P6's for which I did hear some road noise. I have now put on winter tires (Toyo Open Country GO2) which are noisier than the Pirelli's but not intrusive. I did not drive an '07 so I cannot comment on it's ride. I have not noticed any wind noise from the driver's side at all. The MKX is one sweet ride!

When replacing your 20" Pirellis with winter tires did you go for a smaller size wheel (17", 18", 19") ?
CreamEDGE.
Bigger wheels with smaller side walls will increase the ride noise, and stiffen the ride, going smaller will improve the ride, and most likely road noise if the tires are not Sh***y. brantyca
I went with an 18" tire - specifically 235/65R18. This is very close to the standard 18" that comes with the MKX and Edge (non Limited model). The winter tires are noisier than the Pirelli's but I have noticed this on most winter tires anyway. The noise is from the tread pattern and not from the road itself.
