carjock Posted July 23, 2014 Report Share Posted July 23, 2014 Being a new Edge owner (I have a very monochromatic, de-chromed example) I just noticed there are body side moldings that are available for these cars. The moldings come in a kit with everything needed for installation, and look like very good quality. They are pre-painted. My interest would be to add them to prevent parking lot dings. Has anyone added these? Do they look good and are they actually substantial enough to prevent dings/bumps. Anybody have an opinion or experience to share? Another question: As "loaded" as my Edge is, they forgot to put the "Home Link" (Garage Door Opener Option) that fits in the driver's sun-visor on the car. What a silly thing to forget on a car of this caliber! Anyway, does anyone know if the sun-visor WITH the Home Link buttons installed be bought through Ford? Would this be a difficult installation? ls973800 Posted July 23, 2014 Report Share Posted July 23, 2014 You can find the sun visors equipped with Homelink on eBay for some very good prices. Installation isn't that hard if you are a little bit mechanical and can splice wires together. Try a search on this forum to see if anyone has written up the project. If not, do a Google search about adding Homelink for some good posts on other Ford forums. You might also try checking You-Tube for any videos. I have read posts where people have just bought the transmitter part from other cars and added them into their own visors. Not all that hard to do if you go that route. The moldings are nice, but won't prevent all dings or dents. You would install them where they look best on your Edge. However, other cars that may open a door into yours will have their door edges all different heights. What I mean is a Chevrolet Impala may have it's extended door edge 30 inches high, a Ford F150 may be 36 inches high, and you may have put your moldings 27 inches high. Moldings may help in a few cases or prevent yours from hitting a pole or sign, but do it mainly for the looks if you like them. But yeah, folks are gonna ding ya if they want to. Best you can do is park between vehicles that look like their doors will be far enough from yours when open. Or just grab a home link module and splice it in to the mirror power (all visors have the plastic mold for home link that you can remove with a straight blade). carjock Posted July 25, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 25, 2014 I guess that I'm a little on the clumsy side when it comes to doing mods like installing this home link switch into an existing visor. SO....I found what seemed like a good deal on a brand new visor with the mirror and home link already factory installed and bought it outright. Still a little spendy, but considering that it is going on a brand new vehicle, I feel justified in taking this route. I'll just have to do without food for a couple of weeks! (lol).
