JamesAA
Car has about 45k miles on it. Started noticing light squeeking when braking in reverse a few months back. Had brake pads replaced in March by a local mechanic (not at Ford). He said rotors were fine. For a few days the car was fine. Then it started squeeking again (when braking in reverse). Over the weeks it gradually got worse and worse. Now it is embarassingly loud. Sounds awful. Never squeeks while moving forward. Any clues???? Thanks
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Happens all the time in reverse or just when starting up/moving the Edge? Is the emergency brake releasing fully? If you let the Edge sit long enough, mild rust develops on the rotors, which gets scrubbed off during initial braking. The rears seem to be more prone to this problem, maybe due to the emergency brake setup? Have the calipers checked to make sure they are not binding, and have the slide pins lubricated.
JamesAA
Thank you very much for the advice. It happens every single time I reverse, but does seem worse when reversing for the 1st time after the car has been parked.
akirby
Try jacking up each wheel and turning it by hand to see if you can replicate the squeaking. * with the engine off, wheels blocked and the transmission in neutral.

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Ford/Motorcraft pads or aftermarket? Unfortunately, the Ford/Motorcraft pads can contribute to brake noisiness even if all else is seemingly well.
akirby
i can do that. what would that determine? It would tell you whether it was just one wheel or more than one and from there you might be able to diagnose the cause by removing that wheel and looking at the brakes (if it's just one wheel). riverart
The same exact thing happens with my Edge. Do you park outside? I attribute it to moisture on the emergency pads. When I park inside garage, it doesn't seem to happen.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Good point, riverart. Emergency setup + rust on the rotors = bad combination!
jackson708
same thing happened to my edge 2010 had the calipers lubed problem gone 59000 miles
macbwt
Semi Metalic pad? You could always try ceramic. I went ceramic for my trailblazer and the sqeeky noise went away. I have semi metalic on my Edge, but i never really use the brakes so they do not sqeek much.
