2015 Ford Edge first look

Recommended Posts

Check it out. Looks good, but I'm not sure why they went back to first-gen style vertical center HVAC vents.

The vents bother you that much? Did you notice the 2015 Sport has a new 2.7 twin turbo ecoboost engine, and the interior dimensions are larger than the current Edge? I will take the 2015 vents and all the new features any day over my 2013 Edge Sport. I cannot wait to get out my 2013 Sport and get into the 2015 Sport. Early next year cannot get here soon enough.

Because they're reusing the Fusion interior. And a lot of the exterior (taillamps, grille, etc.). Platform sharing.

Oops. Never mind. I guess staring at my Fusion interior for 16 months wasn't enough for me to remember the vents were horizontal.

The rest is pretty much Fusion though.

I never said that they bothered me. I was just commenting that they went back to a design from a previous generation. Seemed like a step back instead of forward. Just an observation. Overall, I'd say they hit it out of the park with this redesign.

That's to be expected, since the Edge and Fusion have always shared the same platform. And we'll probably see a lot more common stuff across these models since under Alan Mullaly's "One Ford" global initiative, many vehicles will share platforms like the Edge/Fusion/Mondeo models.

I will take a 2015 Edge Sport with the Fusion vents any day over my 2013 Edge Sport with the chassis from 2006 and the laggy Microsoft MFT. I can't wait to place my order for the 2015 Sport. The 2015 checks most of my must haves, and Ford surprised me with the 2.7-liter V6 Ecoboost twin turbo with start/stop tech and can run on 87 octane. The electric sand has my name written all over it.

I don't believe the 2.7 gets start stop... Only the 2.0T. I'm a bit disappointed Ford didn't debut an updated MFT interface with the new Edge, seeing as it was the first to get it back in 2011 (I may be mistaken).

Hopefully the Sport will get the option of full leather, seeing as it'll be the only way to get the 2.7TT, as I'm sure some people won't like the seats.

The 2.7 is the same engine in the F150 and it has start stop. http://motrolix.com/2014/02/feature-spotlight-the-2015-f-150-and-its-new-2-7-liter-ecoboost-v6/ I'm fine with what I've seen so far as to what the Sport has to offer and it is better equipped than my 2013 Sport.

Having lived through that nightmare here as the moderator in 2010, i can honestly say I'm ecstatic that it's NOT debuting on the Edge!

And if it isn't ready, it isn't ready. No reason to hold up the entire vehicle just to launch it with a new version of MFT, especially if the rumors of it being compatible with existing hardware are true. It was a little different in 2010, as much of the physical design of the IP and center stack relied on MFT being there, in any form.

Exactly. They got stuck between a rock and a hard place when they had already committed to the new design with MFT for production but the software crapped out. This is probably one reason they made sure it was backwards compatible so they can upgrade it later on its own schedule and not get tied to a new vehicle launch. They are learning......

Surely a faster processor and a more responsive capacitive touchscreen could be integrated easily into the existing MFT system!

It's a great system IMHO - I just wish it was a much more responsive.

Will be interesting to see what results come of the new design. If it is programmed properly, there's a decent chance that a faster processor wouldn't even be necessary. The programming would just use the existing one much more efficiently.

However, the vertical vents from the 2007-2010 Edge had nothing to do with how weak the air conditioning was. The 2011-2014 is better but I am curious whether the air flow has been ramped up with the vertical vents.

On 30 Jun 15‚ my wife departed for work and the car was in perfect condition. She drove to work‚ picked up our child enroute home and did not drive to lunch that day. Upon arrival at home‚ she pointed out that the rear vista glass roof panel had cracked for no apparent reason. We dropped it off at Cowles Ford with the expectation the factory warranty or the additionally purchased extended bumper to bumper warranty would cover the issue. Cowles Ford informed us that Ford Corporate told them telephonically how to "test" for an impact area and based on their newly learned "test"‚ they determined it was a rock and an insurance claim instead. I disagreed because there are cracks throughout the entire glass and they do not intersect with the alleged point of impact. I asked my insurer (USAA) to have a claims specialist look in depth as well and she pointed out to the dealer that there are other areas that look the same as their alleged point of impact. They have not been able to answer my questions regarding how can a point of impact on one side of the glass have impacted the numerous other areas cracked as well. Yet despite having no answers‚ Ford Corporate trusts their newly found expertise to deny the claim at the dealership level. This is disingenuous and I won’t stand for it. The dealer needs to back the claim or get Ford to provide a qualified expert that can support why the claim is denied other than a hunch and on-the-job training by phone. https://youtu.be/YHPwvWvYXQs
