Vortechtral
Hey, we are wondering if this is the power steering reservoir or something else: Once the engine gets a slight load, and when started from a cold start (after off for the night, or work day) the engine bay is putting out one hell of a whining noise. Looked inside, couldn't find anything but did see this tank VERY empty. You can see its at the tube and the min/max lines are both near the top. When we turn the wheel left or right there is more of a whining sound. The sound picks up with speed but gets quieter as the engine gets warmer but is still noticeable. Anyway, any help is appreciated. The sound started on Friday and is worse today. May need to take it in. Filling it may stop the problem but if its that empty, then there might be a leak somewhere I reckon unless that tank empties regularly. thirdgenlxi
Yes, that is the power steering res......def shouldn't be empty, probably have a leak somewhere. Fill it up before driving it anymore or you could completely burn your power steering pump up
Vortechtral
All right, went to pick up some power steering fluid topped it off started the vehicle revved a bit and moving the wheel slowly to let it drink up. Topped off again did the same thing over again. Seemed to level out. But it still makes the whining noises on start up and till revs hit a certain speed then it goes away. Had to phone Ford at this point. They told me certain line ups on their vehicles have hoses made from "new materials" that cant stand the pressure and rupture. Funnier thing is its not a recall of any sort. If your out of warranty your SoL. But yeah the guy on the other end immediately told me what it was without thinking for even a second. So I have it booked for Saturday to get the hose replaced and hopefully the pump is fine, if not that gets replaced as well!
