NoHip
Had a crack form on the driver side window caused by closing the door while the window was rolled down. The crack is on the inside of the car. Ford has told me it (glass) is not covered by the warranty. Has anybody else had this problem? It is frustrating that something inside of the door caused this and not a flying rock.
f150bft
I thought that all the side glass and roof glass was tempered safety glass and would just shatter on impact. I didn't know it could crack? Wow....best of luck.
aarondesj
Somewhere in this forum I saw a link that provides break downs of how to view the maintenance schedule, and all open TSBs on any vehicle, regardless of year/make/model. I cannot remember what it was called, but remember there was a link from a library to this system. Very informative as to what issues are open on all vehicles. I distinctly remember seeing an issue with window cracking or shattering on the driver/passenger side. Check thru the forums in regard to this and it might help! jwax
I also had my driver's side window crack! I assumed that I had done something, although I couldn't imagine what. The crack started at the bottom and went up through the window, "v-ing" and to the top in two different locations.

trockli
I just encountered the same situation. Ā Ā So, it looks like I am out of luck, as the basic warranty expired? Even tough it is a know construction flaw? Ā I am hoping that a Ford CS is listening. I just have to shell out for this kind of repair that are design flaws. I was in the process of buying a second Ford. However, this kind of defects make me reconsider. I just had the Door Ajar issue fixed. CinnamonEdge
It should be safe to assume that all these Edges are limited models with laminated glass. I hope that doesn't happen to me
trockli
Ours is a limited. Not sure what the difference in glass is. Either way, should not happen.
omar302
Ours is a limited. Not sure what the difference in glass is. Either way, should not happen. limited & Sport models in addition to the Lincoln MKX have Laminated front side windows for additional sound insulation. SE & SEL have regular side windows. acwatts
I just had the same issue with drivers side door. Went to the local Ford dealer and they told me they don't do glass. Had Safelite come out and the tech told me that it's a design flaw and Ford knows all about it. Cost me my deductible - $100.00.
trockli
acwatts, Ā Do you know what brand glass Safelite used? I was not happy on a windshield that they used for a GM car. I wonder if they use the true OEM glass manufacture for this... Ā P.S. My ford dealer chooses not even to call me back with a quote... trockli
So, I called Napleton Ford In Libertyville since Arlington Heights Ford did not call me back with a quote (although being a customer there...). Strange experience, called the service deck, they gave me the labor estimate and transferred me to the parts deck to get a price for the window. Not exactly, how I envision customer service! In any case the price: - labor $210 - window: $396 Ā Amazing, that Ford wants to make profit on known TSB issues! I would expect that Ford would provide parts at cost if there is a known TSB. macbwt
This is what Ford did to the window when they installed it.
CinnamonEdge
Im sure they wouldnt install it like that. but the design is weak . Its like holding a glass with a pair of pliers. I'm scared to close my doors now.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Maybe they can XRay or otherwise image the glass while still in-door to determine if there is an issue? Still under warranty, CinnamonEdge? Edited July 17, 2016 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
CinnamonEdge
Im under warranty until March 2019, 75k miles, no problems yet. But only have 30k. Edited July 30, 2016 by CinnamonEdge
