akirby
PS is this smart or dumb? Neither. It just depends on what you want or need.
tbwarren
All depends on how much money your looking to get for each / how much you owe on each vehicle. In my experience (worked at a dealer for 3 years as a sales person) they offer much less than what you could easily sell the vehicles for. It all comes down to what the dealer appraises your vehicles for- so I'd start there.
akirby
In my experience they offer much less than what you could easily sell the vehicles for. If they didn't, they wouldn't make any money. That's why it's called wholesale vs. retail.
bryan013
Carmax typically gives you $1-2k more than dealers will give you with a trade-in, they make it extremely easy, and won't try to use your trade-in as leverage against you when negotiating the price of your new car. With the last car I bought, the salesperson mentioned that he always uses Carmax and wouldn't trade-in his cars to a dealership.
