20" Chrome Clad wheels vs 18" Chrome Clad or Alloys

So I have a deal in progress on an Edge Limited. It comes with the optional 20" wheels as an upgrade for $850 plus tax. I was hoping to buy an Edge with 18" wheels so that I could put my dedicated winters on which happen to be 17" (235/65R17) I realize that the 20" (245/50R20) are the same diameter as the 18" (245/65R18)

Are the 20" tires a better ride that the 18" as far as handling, bumps etc ?

I was just thinking economics when it comes to replacing the tires and also ride characteristics of going from a 17" high profile tire in the winter and then a 20" low profile tire in the summer. Should I ask the dealer for some 18" wheels? Also colour of vehicle is Tuxedo black and actually I prefer the look of the Alloys versus the Chrome Clad (I must be old school - LOL)

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Please advise

I replaced the 20 inch chrome clad wheels within the first 2 months of ownership due to 1) didn't care for the bright chrome look and 2) major concern was unrepairable damage when (not IF) I hit a curb. Look on eBay and see all of the chrome clad wheels being sold because of curb rash. No way to repair them!

I went with 20 inch alloy Ford Flex wheels so I could use my same tires and TPMS sensors. Never had any 18 inch wheels on it, so can't speak for the ride difference between the two.

You can sure buy a set of 18 inch wheels and sometimes complete with tires for a very reasonable price. You will have no trouble selling the 20 inch chrome clad wheels, but may have to ship them.

Look online at the eBay listings. The Flex comes in 18, 19, and 20 inch I believe. I think the standard painted 18 inch wheels on the Edge SEL look nice. I had picked up a set of like new ones for $400.00 from someone who upgraded theirs to an aftermarket set. I sold them for $500.00.

Just remember to check the hub opening size of any wheel other than an Edge you may be interested in. The 2010 and older Edge wheels will not fit the 2011 and newer Edge because the hub opening is different. I believe all Flex wheels use the same opening as a 2011 and newer Edge. Explorer wheels also may work.

After doing some research on the Internet I found out that the larger diameter wheels make the vehicle suffer in tests involving 0-60 and overall fuel consumption. Going to see the dealer tomorrow to find out what my options are. Machined Aluminum would be my first choice and alloys second, as long as they are not the chrome I'm good. Checked out E-Bay aswell to see what you said earlier.
