Jay Edgar
I just bought a 2010 Ford Edge SEL. It has Sync, but no touch screen display. The microphone is built into the headliner (not part of mirror). My microphone is not working at all for either voice commands or for phone hooked up via bluetooth. I've gotten to the back of the stereo unit, but I don't think that is where the microphone goes. Based on what I'm reading it goes to a Sync module but I can't find where this is? Does Ford call this module something different? I've subscribed to alldatadiy.com but that hasn't been of much help. Where should I look for open connections, unplugged connectors, etc.? I did find the replacement microphone for around $100 but I want to make sure that its not something simple first. I'm also considering an after market stereo (perhaps the JVC KW-NSX700). Would I lose any functionality with an after market stereo? For example the back up sensor warnings go through the OEM stereo (but also are displayed on the driver's dash display). I assume after stereo replacement it would just go through the driver's display only so I wouldn't lose anything. Would I lose any functionality with an aftermarket stereo that would surprise me?
