merryxmas15
Hi everyone! I'm hoping I can get some help here before having to go spend lots of money at the dealer The voice command button on my steering wheel has recently stopped working. I push it aaaaaaaaaand......nothing. The top part of the button which will redial the last number works fine and all other buttons work. Any ideas? Thanks so much! P.S All software is updated and has been since like August so I don't think it's an update issue.
akirby
Could be the button itself OR the clockspring inside the steering wheel that makes the electrical connections from the buttons to the systems. If you can make it work by pressing harder or a different way then it's probably the button.
FordIVTteam
I think you should try akirby's suggestion, but I'd like to add that this could also be a SYNC issue. You can try a master reset to your system if pushing on the button harder doesn't do anything. Here are the links to the master reset support cards:MyFord - http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-syncMyFord Touch - http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-sync-myford-touchLet me know how it goes!Rebecca
merryxmas15
Thank you so much for your help/information I really appreciate it! Now for the update: Yesterday as I was leaving work I decided I would try the button. You know, just to see. And it worked!! How crazy is that?! I didn't push harder than normal or anything. Just pushed the button and, eureka! I also noticed that my ambient lights had changed to what I believe is the default color (the lighter, bluish color). I had them set on red so it was an obvious change. In thinking about it I realize that there have been times in the past that the lights had changed to that bluish color when I know for sure I had left them set as a different color (usually red). Curious, very curious. Any theories on this? Maybe my car just prefers that particular color? Maybe she's haunted? Maybe she's just screwing with me. I just don't know! I am glad my button is working now but its just strange.
ls973800
The changing of the color isn't that unusual. They is now a fix, but you have to go to the dealer to have it done. Something about it doesn't retain memory to hold your color selection. Mine changes within a week or so, as does the intensity always going to full. I may take it in soon now that there is a known fix. Just haven't heard of anyone with the problem having the fix applied yet.
OnEdgeinMA
Had the same issue with the Voice commands button that would work intermittently. Sometimes it wouldnt work for days then all of a sudden it would start working again. Brought it to the dealer during regular maintenance and they claimed it was a software update. Its been a month or so and hasnt happened since. Keeping my fingers crossed.
rock7437
Ironically my edge experiences the same problem. I've found that it has to do with services for some reason. Whenever my voice button stops working I hit the connect to services button under the top right tab then hit the voice button when the services computer operator picks up. After I disconnect the call the voice button and sync respond with no problem. I know it sounds unscientific but it actually works for me
OnEdgeinMA
Thanks for the info. Will try this next time it happens as the software update did not fix it and has happened again.
Edge356
I experience the same intermittent working issues with my voice command button as well. Posted same under the 2013 section but, thought I would post it here as well. Had 2 such scenarios within the last month. Both times I got the voice command button working again by pushing and holding in the button while starting the vehicle and that seems to "reset" the button. Getting annoyed thought that this happens. I do not believe it is a mechanical issue with the button itself but definitely a SYNC issue.
