mrtwohands
My brake fluid, coolant, and power steering are all low. Can I simply buy any fluid manufacturer and top them off?

akirby
As long as the fluid meets the spec in the OM, yes.
mrtwohands
Awesome. Thank you. So if its ford OEM fluids I should be fine?
akirby
Awesome. Thank you. So if its ford OEM fluids I should be fine? NO! You have to check the owners manual to see what type and spec of fluid each one requires. Even Ford could have multiple versions or specs of a fluid and you have to get the right one for your vehicle. The specs are printed in the OM for a reason - PLEASE read it. Platinum White
If your brake fluid is low and there are no leaks, check the brake pads. They may be close to needing to be replaced. If you replace the pads the fluid will be back to normal.
pjsockett
My Power Steering fluid is low, can I top it off with any Mercon V ATF or do I need to use Motorcraft if I am just adding to what is already in there?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
What year Edge? I think 2007-12 Edge was Mercon V and 2013+ is Mercon LV, so check owner's manual to be sure. But any brand PS fluid certified for the right Mercon spec should be fine, don't need to have Motorcraft. If the PS is low and you have a lot of miles on your Edge, be sure to check the system for leaks and the fluid for contamination first. EDITED to update chrono info. pjsockett
I have a 2012 SEL with 33,000 miles on it. The manual shows Mercon V for PS and Mercon LV for ATF
