Krash Kadillak
Hello, all. We purchased a slightly used (18k) 2012 Ford Edge this last Saturday, trading in our 2006 Chevy HHR that had close to 90k on it. We've had previous experience with Ford products, purchasing a new Explorer in 2003 and 2 used Focus' on the same day in 2005. Our older daughter is still driving her '04 ZX-3 Focus, but I totaled my '03 ZTW wagon in October, 2010 when I rolled over into a snow bank. Couldn't find a good small Ford wagon to replace it with back then, so I replaced it with the HHR. We sold the Explorer (which was the wifey's vehicle) and she took over the HHR in 2012 when I bought a 1981 Pontiac Bonneville Safari (I love station wagons...). Our Edge is white, a AWD SEL model. Not too loaded with equipment - no moonroof or leather, no nav. I did notice that it's got 18" alloys (factory). Were those an option over 17's perhaps? We're recently retired, living in Springfield, Oregon. Don't really have any questions on the Edge yet. Still trying to peruse a downloaded copy of the owner's manual - feel like I'm trying to read 'War and Peace'........... The dealer's still trying to come up with a hard copy for me. Got an appointment at the service department on Monday to add heated seats. Nice to be here. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Welcome & congratulations, Marshall! I believe SE's get the 17's standard, and the SEL's the 18's. How much is the dealer charging for installed heated seats (whole seat or just the heating element?), if I may ask?
Krash Kadillak
Welcome & congratulations, Marshall! I believe SE's get the 17's standard, and the SEL's the 18's. How much is the dealer charging for installed heated seats (whole seat or just the heating element?), if I may ask? Well the dealer said they would give me a deal and give me "50% off" their 'normal price, but my cost was still around $495, which compares with the installation cost by a local stereo shop that does this and advertises it on TV. It seems (at least with American cars) that you an only get heated seats with leather. Read a blurb on Jalopnik today that Honda's got an issue with all their heating units on cloth seats. They're not sure the upholstery is flame retardant enough.

Haz
Krash: Attached below is an informational reference for your 2012 Edge, with fewer pages of reading than your Owner Guide... If you'd like more information about your specific vehicle, see here & here. Krash Kadillak
Well............. 5 1/2 year later............................................ I thought I was going to be more active on this forum, but I guess 'life' just sort of took over. Now that i'm back, I think I'll be participating a bit more. WHY did I come back? NEW Edge, that's why. The 2012 continued to serve us faithfully during the rest of 2014, all of 2015, all of 2016, all of 2017, all of 2018, with only one very minor glitch. There was a recall on something - can't even remember what it was.....probably done in early 2018. Also needed a new battery around that time, then earlier this year, it got new tires (Continental) just before turning 70,000 miles. Took a trip down the Oregon coast from our home in Springfield in early July to go on the Rogue River jet boat excursion. The Edge performed flawlessly. After we got back home, we loaned the Edge to our younger daughter who was here visiting from So Cal, so she could see a friend of hers up in Portland. On the way, on I-5, north of Salem, she was involved in an accident. EVERYBODY was OK. The Edge wasn't. The front frame rails were crunched, requiring replacement, but that cost, plus the other necessary repairs put the total repair cost over the total loss threshold. I started research on a replacement vehicle well before the insurance money came through. We weren't expecting to have to buy another vehicle right now, and were looking forward to January, when the 2012 Edge would have been paid off. Oh well......... The Mrs. and I talked, and we decided we really liked the Edge - it's size, it's comfort, pretty much a 'whole package' for us. I wanted MORE though. The SEL AWD was fairly plain, and I wanted some more features - leather and a moon roof, primarily. (The Mrs. didn't require the moon roof, and really didn't want leather, but basically you can't find an Edge with a moon roof that DOESN'T have leather. When we first started looking, it was primarily for 2013 - 2014 units - Limiteds. I also had my eye on a VERY nice 2014 Lincoln MKX with only 49,000 miles on it. The Mrs. absolutely DIDN'T like the MKX front grill, and I just couldn't get her interested in it. It was also about 140+ miles away, too. I started looking at the gen-2 Edges, and there seemed to be a wider selection of them around - just not in the colors we would consider. We were still going to buy 'used'. I happened to see a couple ads for Titanium models in the 'White Gold' color, and I fell in love! Unfortunately, those two were 300+ and 800+ miles away, respectively. Then, after two straight weeks of Auto Trader / Car Gurus / Cars.com / Edmunds internet shopping, one FINALLY pops up at a Ford dealer about 80 miles away. We can do this! It's a 2018 AWD Titanium with the EB4. Doesn't have much of the extra-cost option packages a lot of Titaniums are equipped with, but it DOES have the panoramic moon roof and ceramic white leather upholstery. Looks SHARP! (I'll get some photos up in a day or two....) We took delivery this last Thursday......... ......................................................................................................................................................................... I swear - I'm sticking around this time! Marshall
