fuel gauge problem

Recommended Posts

I just bought my edge two days ago and after only 240 miles, the fuel gauge crapped out. It suddenly said I was low on fuel so I gassed up since I didn't know how far the edge should be able to go on a tank. It only took 11 gallons to fill it up and even after filling up, it still said low fuel and the needle sat at empty. Anyone else have this happen?

BTW, anyone know if they make air vents that have the chrome trim on the far left and far right air vents? My two center vents have a chrome trim on them and the other two are painted silver and it bugs the piss out of me.

The dealership called me and said that a piece of insulation in the fuel tank fell down and hit the fuel pump assembly, which knocked the sensor off, which is why the gauge no longer works. The solution: the car needs a whole new fuel tank and pump assembly. Pretty crazy since the car only had 200 miles on it and has never done anything but city driving. The dealership I took it to was surprised too and told me that this was the first ford edge that they've had in for anything but an oilchange.

Sounds like a fluke.

I purchased a new 2012 Ford Edge in early April. The fuel gage is really innacurate. It warns you that you are almost out of fuel even though

the tank still has 6 gallons in it. I do not expect a fuel gage to be precise, just close. The gallons used feature matches up with the amount of gas you can put in the tank but the gage and warning system are only about 65% correct.

Does anyone else have this problem?

How many miles to empty when you get the warning? It should be about 50 miles to empty. If your avg fuel economy is really low and accounting for a 2 gallon reserve you might have 6 gallons left.

The tank on my front wheel drive Edge is 18.5 gallons. The fuel gage and the miles to empty warning think that the tank is about 12 gallons. The dealer checked the car and said that since the float in the tank moves and the gage moves,it is not a warrateable item.

If it was just a wildly innacurate gage it would be easy to work with. Its the constant miles to empty warning that you need to keep clicking "OK" to (even though thereare 5-6 gallons in the tank)that is irritating.

The miles to empty feature is set on normal, not towing.

Other than the faulty fuel gage, the car is great!

I have a 2013 Limited FWD. I have problem with the fuel gauge as well. Mine is after filling up I travel just a few miles under 50 and the gauge reads between full and 3/4. yet it will still show 300 miles to empty for all city driving. I dont think this is right.

Any input is apprecieated. the dealer really has no solution

Yeah I have had similar problems with my fuel gauge....the needle is accurate but the digital readings are off by a lot...after the reserve fuel warning comes on around 50 miles to E, it then drops about 5 miles to E every mile...annoying when having to risk it! Also, when I fill up it says I get 20.1 mpg and will get 380 miles out of the tank but I only average 19 mpg and get about 280 miles from a tank. I asked Ford about it and they said that the sensors in the tank tend to do that and to not even pay attention to the digital readings, pay attention to the needle and I'll be fine.

I think they took away the gallons used info on the 2013 model. I can't find it anywhere on my Limited. I'll have to compare the computer MPG readout with a hand calculation next time I fill up. Never even thought to do so because I've been pleased with the results from the computer. I guess a reality check never hurt anything, right? :fear:

Nope, no such settings showing Normal or Enhanced on my 2013 Limited. When I set to Trip Odometer, there are only two choices, Trip 1 or Trip 2. They just show the miles, nothing showing for fuel used.

There are several things removed from the 2013's that I've noticed reading posts on this forum. The fuel used is one of them.
