rgigowski Posted December 31, 2013 Report Share Posted December 31, 2013 I have an 08 Limited I bought used. Great vehicle, very clean and I am impressed with it. A few months ago I cleaned up the in cab air filter (couldn’t find one locally other than the dealer) and everything worked fine. A month or so later I noticed the fan wasn’t on no matter what speed I put it on (it has climate control). Started to work on its own during that drive and just forgot about looking at it. Happened a few more times since then and always came on within 10-15 minutes so it was more of a nuisance than a failure. This past week the car sat at the airport outside parking and now the fan doesn’t come on no matter how long I drive it. I haven’t looked at anything yet but I am hoping for some advice and guidance before I start looking. OBTW: Off topic I recently replaced my windshield wipers with Rain-X replacement blades… I highly recommend them. Little pricy but worth it. akirby Posted December 31, 2013 Report Share Posted December 31, 2013 Pull the connector off the blower fan under the glovebox and see if it's getting power. If so then its the fan. Got in the car and the fan motor is magically back and working. I am going to have to wait until the next time it decides to fail. Not sure what else I can do? Sounds like that could be costly and not as easy as three screws to replace the blower motor! I went to Rock Auto and found three units available if I have to replace the blower motor. I think it is different than the ETAC mentioned by Akirby. I have replaced these modules in various other models when the blower hasn't worked, or hasn't worked on all speed settings. Below is what I found in my service manual for my 2013 Edge. I would think your 2008 would have the same, or a similar, component. Rockauto is showing several blower motor control modules/resistors including Motorcraft brands. Prices range from $40.89 to $97.79. Not sure what the difference between them is, but there are 2 Motorcraft ones with different part numbers and different prices. Might be something to check. Sorry the pictures didn't attach. I am using a new computer and haven't figured everything out yet. It looked like the speed control is on the left hand side once you remove the glove box. Blower Motor Speed Control Removal and Installation Remove the 2 glove compartment retainer pins. Remove the glove compartment. Detach the glove compartment damper from the glove compartment. Release the stops by pressing them toward the center of the glove compartment while lowering the glove compartment, and remove the glove compartment. Remove the blower motor speed control. Disconnect the blower motor speed control electrical connector. Remove the 2 blower motor speed control screws. Remove the blower motor speed control. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Understand the attachment to the 442. We have a 71 GS convertable that has been in the family since new. My dad bought it my senior year in high school. Today the car is in Florida with my brother. Today is not the best time to be without a heater here in Wichita, KS. as it is only 6 degrees out. I was wondering how to test if it is the resistor or blower motor? rgigowski Posted January 6, 2014 Author Report Share Posted January 6, 2014 gbergkamp, not sure on the testing procedure but I was just going to get my volt meter out and start playing until I get an idea what's going on, then post it up for feedback. For me, once the system fails again, I will verify voltage is coming to the fan assy. If that test is negative, then I have a problem upline in the EATC and I don't have the foggiest idea how to test that. My inclination is to just order parts! However, I haven't gotten to the first test and I totally understand the cold. Tonights low here is 14. Fortunately the blower has been running everyday but the day we came home from the airport which was a week ago today. I did pull the filter our and make sure there wasn't something obstruction the fan. Oddly, it has been working fine but there wasn't an obstruction so I doubt that has anything to do with it. Verey frustrating. One time it failed I was driving and hit a pot hole. Dang thing came on right afterwards making me think I have a lose connection. Haven't checked that yet but I have reached under the dash and wiggled anythig I could get my hands on when it failed again and to no avail, nothing. Very intermittent and frustrating. Would replacing this, 5 19E624 Blower motor speed control (dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control [EATC] vehicles) possibly fix the problem? rgigowski Posted January 26, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 26, 2015 Amazing, simply amazing. I have put up with the blower working and not working for almost two years. Whenever it wasn't working I wasn't home where I could text the connections to see if the blower was faulty or if something else like a controller was failing. Finally got tired and ordered a new blower. OMW... should have done this in the very beginning. Airflow is awesome and the thing is whisper quite.
