Metra dash kit!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been a forum lurker for a bit and just recently purchased my 2013 Edge SEL. I purposely got a model with the basic Sync so I could add my own head unit and speakers. I was wondering if anybody had attempted and had success with the Metra 99-5829CH dash kit that keeps the smaller sync screen and allows you to add a single or double din head unit. I ordered all of my harnesses, adapters, and the metra kit from Amazon, so I wanted to see how hard it would be to do myself. Thanks for any input!!

Keep us updated. I wanted something like that but that kit totally changes the look of the dash. I don't like it. I like the OEM flow. I'll settle for oem radio and add on my subs and amps and speakers. Even that though does not look simple by any means since everything looks integrated. I want to know how those harnesses hook up and where. Maybe being lazy cuz I'm sure theres a diagram somewhere.

Let us know what you hook up your oem integration thing to like an audio control lcq-1 to. Take pics. Be patient cuz this place is a little slow from what I can see.

Yeah I think the problem with adding a sub to OEM dash is that there isn't a pre-out for any of that stuff, so it involves a lot of extra wiring and splicing and probably adding a DSP, which seemed like more work than throwing in a new head unit and slowly adding on to it. The Metra dash kit site actually lists all of the additional harnesses you need, so I just ordered them from various places and am waiting for delivery. Looks like you just need the standard Ford harness, the ADBOX adapter that keeps your sync and everything, the steering wheel control adapter, and the antenna adapter. I'm unsure about how the backup camera is going to integrate (I assume it's a standard RCA video cable?) and I think the ADBOX harness keeps the connection to the "Reverse" on the car, but I'll definitely keep you updated and take pics once i'm done.

So far I've put in Infinity kappa 682.9's in the front and rear doors and absolutely love the sound they bring, but they seem a bit underpowered by the OEM head unit so I figured i'd start with a new head unit (Alpine IVE-W535HD) and work from there. I'm not sure I have the know-how to run the power cable from the battery for amps, so I'm holding off on that for awhile (planning to add a stealthbox).

I too want the stealth box and planning on those exact door speakers. I always did my own audio in my past cars and some kick ass systems but one look at those wires back there and I'll take it to the pros as much as I hate too. Its all the oem intergration. After that I'm good. Still I'll leave it to the pros when the time comes. Unless there is a trailblazer in the community ( insert Geoff Pe) and does it all.

Those speakers fit great, although I wish they made them mount with the crossover on opposite sides. The little tabs at the top and bottom (if you are holding them vertical) can be tricky in the front driver side door, but you can bend it back a bit and all is well. I'm hoping the $150 i spent on all these silly harnesses and adapters makes the OEM --> aftermarket conversion pretty painless, but that remains to be seen until I get the back off!
