samf727
Hi, looking to buy the DDM TUNING kit for hid. Is the 55W safe for heat and size? Do I need to buy any of the accessories they want to sell? Which size/style of bulb do I pick from the list to purchase ? (I dont see 9012 or HIR2)
flightplannerjim
I got the 35W kit with 9006 bulbs and they work fine in my 2011 Limited. I did notice that the lights seemed to take a short time to come to full brightness so I added a capacitor harness and that seeed to do the trick. Very satisfied with the amount of light and color. candurin
I you want a quality kit, look elsewhere. Just a warning, many members have had problems with DDMs wiring harness (some have had no issues), which you WILL need with a 55W kit. If you're going with the DDM kit, then spend the money and get a decent wire harness (TRS Morimoto wire harness is compatible). You can get either 9005 (which some say is easier to insert into the bulb socket) or 9006. TRS does have a 9012 kit: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=36171
samf727
What modifications would you say I need to do in order for the 9006's to match my 9012's ? Anyone else on here have luck with these? For the 50W (which I'd assume are the ones I want?) it's nearly $190.
candurin
You gotta pay for quality. Nothing you can do about that. Many users have had zero issues with ddm, so you'll likely be ok with that kit. You want a wire harness with any ballast higher than 35w to take the strain off the factory wiring. You may need to "thin"/trim the tabs on the bulb a bit, just to facilitate locking it into the socket (you also may NOT have too, hit or miss). 9005, 9005 and 9012's all "match", just slight difference in lumens (applies to halogen bulbs only) and bulb tab pattern (all fit the 9012 socket). You can always get the TRS it on ebay and "make an offer" for less $.
samf727
So the 50W shown from Retrofit would work well? I'm also sort of worried about heat with a better bulb like that, are any of my worries warranted, or should I be completely fine? Thanks for all the help by the way! candurin
I've been using my 50w TRS kit for over a year and half. Zero issues whatsoever.
samf727
Does anyone know of any install videos around that might help me through this a bit? and I think I'll probably spend the money and go for the 50W TheRetrofitSource
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
There are videos on YouTube specifically for Edge HID installation, maybe TRS has 1 or 2 generic ones as well. A link that may be of use to you on this forum: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12565-how-tos-powertrain-electronics-body-more/ and of course, the search engine
candurin
Dan (kc300c) did a great video on YouTube: http://m.youtube.com/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWIp9W6Cz9PY&v=WIp9W6Cz9PY&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWIp9W6Cz9PY%26desktop_uri%3D%252Fwatch%253Fv%253DWIp9W6Cz9PY
Boardspinna
I have the DDM Kit, 35w, 9005 (they fit easier than that 9006). No issues at all, other than what is described in other threads regarding auto-on not working properly, but thats fine for me. I used 3M heavy duty Dual Lock to secure the ballasts to where the OEMs mount to. LOVE 'EM '
candurin
Your auto doesn't work? Are you using a harness? Even when I was using the ddm kit (converted to TRS when my ddm kit crapped out after a week), my lights worked using Auto on the headlight switch. SIRROMMOTORSPORTS
I have 9006 4500K 55w DDM Tuning HID's on my sport and love them. No issues.
fishx65
Just had a 35 DDM ballast die after about 1 1/2 years of service. I had thought about ordering two kits so I would have spare parts back when I placed my order. Wish I would have!!!!!! Just put the halogens back in today to get me by until I decide what to do.
