az_edge Posted September 11, 2013 Report Share Posted September 11, 2013 My 60 portion of the back seat won't un-latch anymore. If I press the button in the cargo area I can hear the mechanism but nothing happens. If I pull up on the manual lever next to the seat nothing happens. Spaceman Spiff Posted October 13, 2013 Report Share Posted October 13, 2013 I had the same thing happen to my 11 Limited. Took it to the dealer. They said something was wrong with mechanism and they spent 5 hours on wiring as there was a short also. Thankfully it was warranty. The so called "Easy fold" seat nor the manual handle will release the seat to fold down. I can hear the release cable motor operate, but doesn't release. I figure its actuator is broke and I'll have to take the darn seat out, and get a new actuator from Ford parts, which is probably the same junk as the orig.Did not use or abuse the "easy fold" seat fold release but it seems from what I hear, the release mech is a poor design - probably not able to take the heavy spring pressure on the seat back, even with normal use over time. Anybody know if there was an improvement /upgrade to this problem? I check TSB's and haven't found anything. The small side continues to work . enigma-2 Posted September 30, 2016 Report Share Posted September 30, 2016 If you do replace the actuator make certain is to check is the 60% seat recliner synchronization. If you fail to follow the instructions for this, the seat back and seat belt could fail in a crash. Your problem could also be a broken recliner cable. I figure I best take the seat out first and check everything. Right now - manual handle does move up and down like its not connected to anything - also- cable motor runs -sounds like nothing is connected---so indeed could be a broken cable. Ah - Great Lakes ILL !! I went thru USN boot and then schools at Camp Porter and Moffett - arrived there by train (from NY to Chicago to Gr Lakes) on a cold Jan day in 1966 - found myself in the 7th fleet -on a heavy Cruiser. afterwards. tours of duty in Nam. EdgeeOne Posted October 3, 2016 Report Share Posted October 3, 2016 After typing it all up I just somehow erased my detailed fix. so I will have to come back, but turns out cables were good - just a clip that goes on end of the long cable which connect to the manual release lever. The clip was broken -- once I figure out how to put some photos up I will do so. I posted to Gallery show the 60% seat removed, click on any and you will go to the album. The broken plastic seat back release pin actuator rod - p/n 61479 which is on order. seems to me a little dab of silicon grease should help.. it was totally dry and there is a lot of spring tension this cable has to pull the actuator from. Remember not to change the position of the seat or put ant pressure on it (laying it upside down to put anything on the seat) while it's out of the car; unless you check the recliner synchronization, or it may fail later on. Edgecole Posted April 1, 2017 Report Share Posted April 1, 2017 After suffering through the 'limp mode' throttle body repair on my 2016 Edge, I remembered reading something about rear seats not folding on this forum. My 12 month, 12,000 mile bumper to bumper expires 9 April, so I went out and checked my folding seats for the first time. Right side folds correctly when pushing the button, Left side does not fold when pushing the button. Back to the dealer Monday. I should note my Edge also has the overly sensitive brake booster, which is on order through the dealer. Another disappointment. My 'virgin' Edge is no longer. mikrsmith Posted April 5, 2017 Report Share Posted April 5, 2017 (edited) I wanted to add that I was able to replace this clip without removing the back seats. I popped out the cargo management cover and the cargo bin on the right side, then used a T20 Hex key to remove the screws holding the cover over the spring assembly. The screw facing the rear was easy to remove. After that I pulled back the cover and pulled the spring while pressing the power assist button to cause the seat to fold down, making the second screw more easily accessible. Push the cover both forward and down to unhook it from the seat bottom, pop the new clip into place and pull back the spring to get the cable end into the opening. I have basketball player sized hands, so I think this would be even easier for a normal person. *Edit, right vs left.
