OhCookie
Hey guys, I just joined this forum. My husband and I own a 2012 Edge and recently a second wheel got curbed so now I am seriously considering changing wheels and tires. My husband curbed the first one and I don't know when the second one got damaged. The Edge came with the 20'' chrome clad crap and I hate them because they cannot be repaired and are too expensive to replace. I want to step down to 18'' with a taller tire. What are your thoughts, opinions, comments, etc. Thanks!
Jackman5000
I have the factory 18s on 2012 limited. We have hit a few serious curbs and no visible damage. Some rough dirt roads...no prob
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
^ +1. 18's work well, ridewise and curb protection wise, also better for traction in snow. Sorry to hear about your wheels though.
wannabang
Not sure about the second gens, but my 18s are still pretty loud inside the car. I think our cars look nicer with bigger wheels. If yours are messed up, definitely get some new ones, and try to avoid the curbs!
Cellbine
I went with factory 18's on our Limited. We have had one really hard curb hit. So hard that we immediately stopped driving to check out if everything was ok, and it was. Very happy with the decision to go with smaller wheels. They are a nice ride, helps us with gas millage, and that tall tire has helped a lot. I do however want to lower the Edge to get rid of that gap a little bit. Good luck with your decision! PrinzII
In this same forum, I posted about getting a set of 20" lace type wheels for mine. However, the more I am thinking about it, the more I am reconsidering that. The 18s are pretty decent for me and the cost of replacing the tires is actually better. PrinzII
The key to that is the sidewall. If the sidewall is too narrow, the ride is going to be rougher.
OhCookie
Thank for all the feedback. I'm definitely going to change them out by the end of the year.
