schaffner4449
Hi! I'm thinking of buying a new 2013 Edge Limited with AWD. Has their been a fix found for the PTU seal problems I've read about? Are they using a different part now? Don't want to get the AWD if I'm going to have to get it fixed all the time. Thanks! nickf1011
Well, I can say for certain it wasn't changed as of 2011. Had mine replaced just before the warranty expired. Crossing my fingers they didn't just replace it with the same faulty part that will fail in another 50,000 miles.
midnapore
Well after reading through the maze of PTU threads, I think I am going to go either with a FWD Edge or maybe even change it up to a Nissan Pathfinder. The pathfinders were redesigned in 2013 and have an intuitive AWD. It comes with a control shift handle where you can run it in FWD only if you like. I plan on keeping this next vehicle for quite a while and after dealing with an AWD problem from another manufacturer, I am very hestitant as to go with the AWD Edge. VFR800
2013 Edge with 30,000 miles...brought it in because of a noise that seems to match the tire speed (almost like a fire truck siren). Sounded like a bearing possibly, but dealer is now saying it's the PTU and are going to replace the entire unit under warranty. No leaks or other concerns...just the noise. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Unusual for the 2011+ Edge, more likely to have a throttle body problem with those years. But hopefully that's the culprit (under warranty, right?).
VFR800
Unusual indeed...my thoughts exactly. The noise started out only being able to hear it at 60+, but now it's audible at all speeds and accompanied by a low pitch grunt and shudder passing through 10 mph. All covered under warranty...I guess we'll see if it really was the PTU after they replace it.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Make sure the dealership checks the PTU fluid level. Possibility of level being low on some units out there when released from factory/dealer, based on amount of fluid extracted from the PTU during a flush/replace procedure by the owner. andyandruth
I had posted yesterday in a transmission forum because I assumed the tranny was at fault. Have a 2012 AWD with 47000 miles. Left us stuck in middle of nowhere Sunday after making horrible sounds and then lost power and wheels ground to a stop even after I shifted to neutral! Horrible burning smell too. Could have been very dangerous had we been on a highway instead of a country road. Today dealer says they will replace the PTU. I can see how that was the problem but it was such a violent failure I really hope they check out the tranny and other drivetrain parts too. Has anyone else had a total failure like we had?
