wannabang
This will be the second attempt at plasti-dip for my car. If you recall the failure of the smoked headlights. This time I will be using black on the grille with a 2 coats of the pearlizer on top. I want to achieve an anthracite-ish looking finish. If it's not shiny, I'll apply glossifier after the fact. So far, I'm 5 coats in on the black. Going to do a sixth and last coat here in a bit. Here are the pictures, start to current. Each picture is plus one coat. Pictures show up the fifth coat. Now, it's break time for a breakfast of donuts as half of the car gets rained on...
wannabang
After a sixth coat of black and one thick coat of pearlizer. I'm going to let this dry and see if I want to add a second pearlizer or just gloss it. I did like the matte black look, but I can always go back and do it again. MFdad13
This is the first I have heard of the pearlizer. I am looking forward to seeing this without all the paper and tape.
wannabang
So am I. The black I think looked well, but being that I have such bright chrome in the headlight housings, I didn't think it would look too good, so I wanted a more grayish color. I'll be finished within an hour.
wannabang
I'm extremely happy with the way this turned out. Actually matches the stock machined wheels' color on the Maxima to the left. I accidentally left the grille's support untaped, but I think it turned out nice regardless. I left the emblem and the first chrome ring around it alone. Now I gotta do the fog light housings. Cellbine
Looks great! Could you give us a straight on closer shot?
Chris Wilson
For those of you interested in Plasti Dip there are a few channels on You Tube. I've been watching a channel from a place across the state (Florida) from me called DipYourCar.com.
wannabang
Chris, that is where I learned everything from. Cellbine, it's currently closed up in the garage since it's storming outside, but I'll definitely be taking more when I take her our next. Hopefully when it's sunny so you can see the shine. My garage has horrible lighting, so I had to shoot it from the side to get any light on it at all.
wannabang
Here's some pictures. It needs some touch up, which I guess means another coat, but it looks good! Has kind of a blue hue (not sure how that came about), but I like it. Have had a few compliments already on it, and my dad would like me to gloss black PD his grille on his Taurus.
