Carol
Has anyone had a problem with the headliner having a gap at the windshield? The one that came in my vehicle was pretty bad so the dealer got in touch with FMC to tell them about the problem I had, they sent a new liner which the dealer installed but it is still not much better. The dealer is contacting FMC again to see if they have come up with a fix kit since this seems to be an on going problem. If any of you have had this problem did you find a way to fix it? Would appreciate any input.
teknowiz
Mine has about 1 CM gap.
youri631
Mine has a gap as well, altough it is not noticeable unless you stuck your head over the dash. One thing I noticed though is that the carpet material is not rolled over the gap towards the inside, it is cut right at the edge of the trim and is very slightly peeled off in same place. Ā I am not sure if it is just the way it is designed, but it look a little cheap.
surfer68
So far Love my leased 2013 Edge SEL but the overall "Fit and Trim" needs improvement. Accepted as my lease costs are way down and my mpg is way up.. and with the White Platinum Tri Coat including appearance package......... the overall look keeps me stoked. [Former BMW driver for many years so getting use to this has been a slow process but accepted.]
Gilly
the headliner gap on my 2013 Edge is almost an inch. I could live with a cm.
Carol
I had a new headliner put in mine and the problem was still there. I didn't like it being that way so the service manager called Ford and asked if there was a repair kit coming out to fix the gap since there was so many complaints and was told that it was in the making, but who knows if that is true or not. Guess we wait and see.
engmoto
I have a gap as well. It's the 2013 Edge Sport. I use the gap to hold the custome fitted sunshade in place. It would be nice to have a clean line at that location. My last vehicle ended up the same way once the windshield was replaced. The guy broke the old molding and I never noticed it was missing until I was trading it for the Edge.
builder1
This is ridiculous, I just saw this on my 2013 Edge and I could live with a small even gap but this is small gap on driver's side and huge, maybe 1" gap on the passenger side. I have washed the windshield many times and even though still new with 4750 miles on it and did not see until today. If I can figure out how to get pics on here I will. Make sure you don't have this problem and just haven't noticed it yet. Weird thing is I don't even see anything that holds the headliner up. So I can add this to the defective battery that left us stranded and the fuel filler neck that was bent too tightly to allow for gas to flow into the tank. Ā PS No it's not paper stashed up there it's the reflection of stuff in my garage. builder1
Well Ford installed a new headliner under warranty to take care of the problem with the headliner I showed in my pics previously. They said the one that came with the Edge was warped and they could not make the "gap" any less.I had to wait to get authorization from Ford itself before the dealer would do this though and of course once he got authorization he had to order the part so the whole process took three days. We bought new one year ago and have had to have the battery replaced in the first week, the fuel filler neck the second week, then the headliner, and also several of the door clips on the passenger door panel had broken off and the panel was loose so they replaced those too. When they installed the headliner they broke one of the garment hanging hooks and of course none in stock so trip back for that. Thankfully the dealer is 10 min away for us.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Time to sit back and enjoy the ride! Hope you will have a problem-free Edge for quite some time to come.
ls973800
Why was the fuel filler neck replaced? Curious if it had anything with shutting the fuel nozzle off when refueling, having to squeeze the last 3 gallons or so in?
CinnamonEdge
I think the problem is that the tank is molded into two separate tanks because it goes over the driveshaft. So air gets trapped in the tank. I have the same problem when I fill up. Sometimes it fills easy sometimes it fights me.
ls973800
I have the FWD, so no drive shaft. I've posted about this before as have others. There has never been an OK sometimes, and a not OK other times. It has always been hard to fill the last 3 gallons or so. Ā That's why I was wondering why his had to be replaced. CinnamonEdge
I think ford has a few different tanks based on year and options. Mine is plastic and 19gallons. I think they switched to plastic some time in 2011 or 2012 because of the leak issues with the old metal tanks. I wonder if different tanks are more prone to this problem. giraffeladie
Intersting to read what was said by everyone. I bought my edge 2013 in December and just now found the problem with the headliner. It's just something that you don't think about looking at when buying a car. But I will in the future. Spending $40, 000 + and finding this is very frustrating. Went to the ford dealer today and they are ordering a new one. I'm just hoping that the upholstery shop will do a good job. I'm just wondering what else can happen when they replace it. This just proves to me that FMC doesn't have good quality control.
CinnamonEdge
I don't have this problem. It's only about 1/4 inch showing on mine and it is equal all the way across. I was thinking if I had the problem I wouldn't want them to touch the liner because of the finesse it takes to remove and install a new one. I would just have them pay to get a 1" strip of limo tint installed at the top of the windshield. Most cars have some blackout or tint at the top of the windshield preventing this from ever showing. giraffeladie
I had the same concern but I have a 1-inch gap and if something isn't done now what will happen in five years when the headliner is falling down and I want to sell it. That strip on the window will help the looks but won't prevent any damage from happening. I have to let ford try and fix it and the service manager said that the upholstery company that they use does great work...we'll see!
