wannabang
This will be the first time I have waxed any vehicle. I have the car for a year and I figured it needed to be done. Stopped by the local Advanced Auto Parts, along with a couple things from Amazon, I got to work this morning. Started it with a wash using Dawn. Dried it with a Shammy, sprayed on some Iron-X. Man, that shit smells. The picture is post-wiping. And after rinsing off the Iron-X and wiping down the water spots after the air and a second Shammy dried the water for me. I'll be continuing the detail later. Up next: Clay, Wax, and some window cleaner.
MFdad13
What part of Ohio do you live in?
wannabang
I'm twenty minutes east of Columbus. Saw the 7-day forecast with 0% chance of rain all week and decided I needed to get this done before that changed.
MFdad13
I plan on washing our Edge in the morning. I also plan to take the badges off the Edge and Fusion tomorrow as long as I can remember to take the heat gun from work home with me lol. What protection do you plan on using? I but Wolf's Body Wrap on the Edge last Friday.
wannabang
I have Turtle Wax, and after I apply that, I'll be putting Dr. ColorChip on, then 3M's paint defender on the front bumper and the hood. I also have Plasti-Dip Glossifier to put on other segments that won't get covered by the paint defender. If I could do it over again, I'd just do a gallon of glossifier. wannabang
The transition from the Iron-X coat to the Mothers clay kit was amazing. It was a somewhat rough feeling with a slight haze to a smooth, crystal shine. Something I did notice about to clay, which I didn't know if it was normal or not, is that it began picking up the color of my car. Then I began to apply the turtle wax. Went on well, came off easy. I'm really pleased with the results. ...oh, and then look what I had never picked up on before. Apparently, the previous owner never pointed it out to the dealer, but the factory missed some clear coat! I hope to apply the Dr. ColorChip a little later today, and I'll do the paint defender a little later in the week.
MFdad13
You were not picking up your paint. That is bonded contaminants that the clay pulled off the paint.
wannabang
Ahhh. Thanks. I just assumed it was paint since it was the same color. I knew the black and off-colored things were impurities, but wasn't sure about the blue.
