Nick Halstead
So I have been rapidly upgrading the interior of my 2 cars lighting. I'm only 50% done in my Edge as I have only the two front lights and then the ones you manually turn on and off in the back seat. The cargo area is done and so is the rear light that comes one when you open the doors. It's crazy bright now. my back windows are tinted at 10% and I could barely see in them with the stock lighting but this lights up the whole car. I'm not even done yet!Front View Inside Through the 10% Through the 10% in the Rear, I like this one cause it shows the stock bulbs in the front and you can see the color distance If anybody wants to know what LEDS I used just send me a PM Edited July 7, 2013 by Nick Halstead
Cellbine
Nice. Upgrading the lights was probably the first think I did to my Edge. Simple, cheap, and makes a huge difference. These are the LEDs that I am using. They are much brighter than the 9-SMD LEDs I used before: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006R34PB4/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Post a link to the ones you are using.
Nick Halstead
for the festoon bulbs I am using thesehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/221245339925?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I think my little work car, (09 chevy aveo) benefited the most though. the whole car only has two bulbs and even with the lights on I couldn't see my feet, now the whole car is too bright
Cellbine
Ah, I have these in my dome and cargo area. I will be upgrading to a DTBL dome system shortly though. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061SHI7I/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=
Nick Halstead
I had those in my Dodge Magnum and even with the lower roof line it didn't get the job done, which is why I went with these in the edge
Cellbine
So they are that much brighter even on with 3 diodes?
Nick Halstead
yes they are a lot brighter, the pics really don't do it justice. each LED is putting out 3w for a total of 9w. Its crazy bright inside. so with just the trunk cargo and rear dome that's 18w of light, when I had the other 2 into the dome it will be 36w... MFdad13
So the "trunk" light and the rear passenger area take this style bulb? I'm almost afraid that these will be too bright in the passenger area with the kid in the car lol. 9W blasting down on her car seat would blind the poor thing. Does this vendor have an option for one bulb? I would like to get one just for the trunk area.
MFdad13
What do you guys know about this style bulb? http://www.ebay.com/itm/JUST-CAME-OUT-2X-6W-COB-39MM-SMD-LED-WHITE-MAP-DOME-TRUNK-FESTOON-LIGHT-BULBS-/221246880225?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33835779e1

My kids don't even flinch when the lights come on (in fact, my 4 year old looks forward to it). I'm really considering the 9W upgrades now. Damn, I've bought more LED bulbs than I know what to do with now.
candurin
Having looked again, seems like the OSRAMS are 7K? That would be quite blue. I'm more of a 5K fan... Nick, can you confirm the lighting color?
MFdad13
7K isn't right for me either. I wouldn't want to go above 5.5k Do you have any pictures of the DTBL dome? Is this for the front?
candurin
I wont be back near my car for a few more days (it's collecting dust at the airport). But, Dan has some great photos on his site. http://www.daytimebrightlites.com/LED_Dome_Lights.html He basically modded the interior of the dome light so that it accepts his LED array panel (I don't recall how big it was, maybe 1.5" x 1.5") and he fits side festoon bulbs as well. Puts out nice, evenly distributed light, right around the 5K temp.
Nick Halstead
I wouldn't call it 7k, looks white to me. without any blue hue. I'll look again tonight. What do you guys know about this style bulb? http://www.ebay.com/itm/JUST-CAME-OUT-2X-6W-COB-39MM-SMD-LED-WHITE-MAP-DOME-TRUNK-FESTOON-LIGHT-BULBS-/221246880225?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33835779e1 I was thinking about that one but I had already bought the other style from a different website, then upon my searching found the ones I bought $5. cheaper on ebay so, in trying to keep all the lights the same I didn't buy these. MFdad13
Looks great. I just ordered the COB festoon bulbs last night. I will try to take pictures/video when I get them in.
Nick Halstead
yeah the video really doesn't do it real justice though.Starting the LED conversion. Camera does not show the entire "fill" of the light, just more so the direct lighting but the whole rear is brightly lite and it's a lot brighter through the 10% from the outside than the camera lends it to be. MFdad13
I installed the 39mm COB festoon in the center spot for the rear dome assembly and the trunk area light. I am very happy with my purchase! They are so bright!! I will try and take a video tomorrow.

Nick Halstead
well I finally installed some leds in the front map lights. They are more bluish and now I must find some that are more yellowish to match the rear. You can see the light difference here

Light distribution was nice and uniform, but light output matched similarly sized arrays using lower cost standard 5050 smd LEDs.

I start working on a light concept prototype and then I see something even cooler and scrap the first and start another. Ugh! Have to up my ADD meds when this starts happening.
