rcahoy
Hi, New to the forum and new to a 2012 Ford Edge. The Edge came with the power lift-gate option and but no remote start. After exhaustive searching, I found the the follow part number should work and is the 100 series plug and play with 5 button fob DA8Z-19G364-A. I've seen descriptions on the installation on Ford Explorers but not an Edge. Is no additional wiring required for an Edge with the lift-gate option for this kit due to it existing already for operation of the lift-gate? Does one just need to buy this kit with hood switch and take it to the dealer for programming? Thanks in advance! gary712
on the edge there is additional installation unlike the explorer..an antenna module gets plugged into tpms module located behind the rear left panel. a hood switch must be plugged in the existing location. keys must be cut and programmed. remote start must be activated with a ford IDS computer. rcahoy
Thanks, Gary. I was just a bit confused as if what you say is true. If the kit for the Edge w/liftgate and Explorer are the same part number, just a bit worried the kit would not come with the additional wiring/antenna for the Edge. TheWizard
It appears that 2013 Edges with power liftgate have everything except the key fobs and programming already installed in the vehicle from the factory. The kit DA8Z-19G364-A consists of nothing but two key fobs. On the other hand, models without the power liftgate apparently don't have the requisite additional equipment and so require the BC3Z-19G364-A kit which includes the antenna, coax cable and two key fobs. The hood switch is not included in either kit. Most listings say "remote hood switch required if not already equipped". The switch part number is BT4Z-19G366-A. You can look under your hood to see if you already have one - it's a plunger type switch near the right headlight.
gary712
that part number is only 2 5 button keys. as wizzard said on the edge additional parts are needed but not on the explorer.
TheWizard
No, that's not what I said. On a 2013 Edge with power liftgate, you MAY need the hood switch (check and see if you have one from the factory) but other than that, you only need the kit containing the two key fobs (and have the dealer program it on). The antenna is not required for this situation. Only Edge models without the power liftgate must buy the kit that includes the antenna and extra cabling. rcahoy
Thanks Wizard for confirming, I will buy the hood switch kit and the DA8Z-19G364-A kit and bring it in to the dealer. I am glad i won't need to pull any rear panels, especially the side with the liftgate mechanism! Thanks for all the help!
gary712
as I said before you need the antenna in all edges that do not have push button start.you will a;so need the hood switch.
TheWizard
Too bad repeating yourself isn't enough to make you right. Check out the application guides on any of the online parts sites (such as partscheap.com or even Ford's own site accessories.ford.com... both say kit DA8Z-19G364-A fits "Edge - Without Push Button Start WIth Power Liftgate"). Or just check the PDF file linked in the earlier post. Line 10 shows 2013 Edge without push button start and without power liftgate requires the complete kit with antenna and cabling. Line 11 shows 2013 Edge without push button start with power lifgtgate requires only the kit with the two 5-button key fobs. Both have the notation that vehicles without an existing hood switch will require a switch. Edited July 3, 2013 by TheWizard
rcahoy
Thanks again for reiterating, Wizard. Just wanted to update everyone...I have the Edge at the dealer right now after buying the DA8Z-19G364-A kit (two, five button key fobs only which is funny since it's still $200) and the hood switch kit. The dealer is currently having problems with enabling the remote start via the IDS, but hopefully they get it working. I will let everyone know the outcome. gary712
yes, do let us know if it needs the antenna kit.
rcahoy
Gary, I believe you are right...Ford is telling my dealer that an antenna kit must be installed (part number 15603 - which is not a complete part number). This is more confusing than it needs to be and nothing indicates this online on Ford's accessory site that additional parts are needed. I will get to the bottom of this and let you know what is needed for this peculiar setup. Thanks, Ryan
gary712
As I have been saying all edge's that do not come with a factory remote start does not come with an antenna.
rcahoy
Okay the answer is here.... At least for the 2012 Ford Edge w/power liftgate you need the following: DA8Z-19G364-A (two key fobs only) BT4Z-19G366-A (hood switch) DA8Z-15603-A (antenna kit) I installed the antenna kit without too much issue. You don't need to run anything up to the dash, just plug in the coax cable to the module that is attached in the driver side rear panel and fix the antenna to the quarter panel structure. Just received word that the remote start is functional from the Ford dealer. Thanks everyone for your input! Ryan
Guest LRK
What exactly does the hood switch do? I just had this kit installed by a Ford tech. I had to buy the kit and antenna Nothing about a switch

It is to enable the vehicle to know if the hood is open or not, remote start will not work if the hood is open. It is probably for safety reasons to prevent accidental engine starting if someone is working on the engine.
