PrinzII
....and looking into a reverse HID kit with a "twist". The only concerns I have are durability and ballast placement. Could you point me in the right direction, Dingo?
wannabang
I'm anxious to see how you get this done. See my "Wishlist" in my sig? I've recently been thinking about the same thing, once I get the funds from my summer work. Both side panels in the rear have plenty of space for the ballasts, though. Honestly the trunk could have been a little bigger. Hah. At least in my first gen. Edited May 23, 2013 by wannabang
Dingo
I used a dxhid backup kit, morimoto 35w ballasts, and a morimoto wiring harness.
wannabang
I'm sad the dxhid kit is only 6000k. Was 15 watts not enough for you, Dingo?
Dingo
I prefer overkill. And the higher wattage bring the color closer to 5000K.
wannabang
If I got the 15w kit and ordered 5000k bulbs separate, even if the bulbs are 35w capable, they'll still work and be the correct color, right? Just be a little extra additional cost. /hijack, sorry, Prinzll Edited May 23, 2013 by wannabang
Dingo
Let me know if you find 5000K bulbs like that...
PrinzII
I used a dxhid backup kit, morimoto 35w ballasts, and a morimoto wiring harness. How did you place the ballasts?

PrinzII
I am also going to pay a visit to my favorite off-road shop for an idea as well.
PrinzII
I did look at the dxhid set and found Dingo was correct. I am also going to look at another avenue for this as well.
PrinzII
Does this kit require warm-up time like regular HIDs?
Dingo
Yes, but not long.
PrinzII
Shortly after I posed that, I did find out they have a 2 second warmup time. I also spoke with the off-road shop and their option is auxiliary backup lights. Not sure I am feeling that one.

candurin
http://www.vleds.com/lpf.html That does seem bright... But wouldn't the hid install be easier? I don't see how you would completely hid the wires on the LPF kit... Having said that, I assume the dxhid kit is plug and play?
Dingo
The wire would be quite easy to hide. The hid kit is plug and play, unless you do it like I did.
candurin
If only I could replicate your lighting. My wiring skills are only as good as the poster who includes photos! Having said that, it does seem as though there are some decent led options that are quite bright: Here's what I'm using: http://www.vleds.com/bulb/921-led/5k-white-19-led-8w-high-power-bulbs-917-918-920-921-922-923-579-1-pair.html And another option: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/25W-CREE-High-Power-921-912-Reverse-LED-bulbs-p/led-sku319.htm But, if the dxhid kit installs easily (http://www.dxhid.com/15wreverselighthid.htm) and is only a 2 second warmup, that may be the way to go... Ultimately, if I was smart, I'd just drive over to your place my next trip to Suwannee (I stay near the mall in Buford). Which I take a few times per year. Dingo
Uh, you know the backup lights aren't 31xx series bulbs, right?
wannabang
If I guess correctly, the LPF light's wires would be fed through the panel with the license plate lights, around the trunk lid, into the cabin, to the reverse light + and -. Dingo
I'd probably run it with a relay tapping the backup camera for the trigger and the license plate lights for power. Then it would all be contained within the liftgate.
candurin
Uh, you know the backup lights aren't 31xx series bulbs, right?Sorry all... I knew we use 921's but for some reason I had 3157 on the brain (those are the front turns). I corrected my links and found the bulbs I have installed from VLED. Damn, I screwed the pooch on that one. Edited June 1, 2013 by candurin

Dingo
Lmfao! I don't own the license plate frame.
candurin
I know... Just saying, if you decided too. It won't happen considering your setup. But one can hope. Besides, I'd need another 40 relays or so to rock your full car lighting.
