Nav won't recognize my town - Rockford, IL

Recommended Posts

This is driving me crazy. The voice-activated nav system on our 2012 Edge has never recognized the city we live in, which is the third or fourth largest in the state of Illinois. I say "Rockford" and it keeps trying to fill in Rockport or Lockport or even Oregon (all much smaller towns). If I type in the location I'm seeking or use sync services, all is fine, but if I am driving around and want to find an address in my town using the voice commands, fuhgeddaboutit. I had MFT upgraded by the dealership a few months ago; this upgrade was supposed to include a nav update. I suppose i will need to take this back to the dealer, but I am curious whether anybody can get their nav system to hear Rockford as Rockford, or have any other suggestions for me? Thanks!

Document this and every other problem and bring it to the attention of your dealer. Ive earned my lesson with letting things go after we need to get a lawyer and start lemon law procedures against Ford for our 2011 Explorer. So, document it, save your papers and hope that your dealer can sort it out for you.

I have this same problem with the nav in my 2010 Edge. It will not recognize "Tampa" when I speak it. I've even had other people in the car say it to see if there was something about my voice that it didn't like, but it still won't take it. I've resigned myself to having to type in the address manually before I leave.

OP - Voice recognition is different from the NAV update that was done. The NAV update to the maps ... as in new streets, POI's etc.

But tis true enough, MFT has a hearing problem. I had to rename my wife in my phone book .. I kept calling a company.

I find myself speaking to MFT like a moron sometimes as well.

Phone mostly, having to say people's names weird because I know that is how MFT says/recognizes it. Speaking very, very slowly when trying to set up a GPS route.... Mine works fine 8 times out of 10 for me though so I'm really not that mad.
