oskar27
Just changed my 17" winter tires to the 18" original 4 season tires which my Edge came with. I found the process pretty easy and the jack / wrench were also pretty good. In the last 20 years or so I always had VW Passats and always used to switch the tires myself with no problem. Now with the Edge I wonder if there are any tips / guidelines to follow. I apply some lubricant on the studs after I clean them and follow proper rotation. But my main question is how about the torque on the wheel nuts? Since these wheels are chrome cladded, is there a chance to crack the cladding if you over torque the nuts? Eddie Man
As I recall (not on front of my O&M manual), the lug torque specs are 100 ft/lbs. Confirm by checking your manual. I would not recommend using any sort of lubricant or anti-seize compounds on the studs or lugs as this would alter torque specs and binding affects of the nut-stud. If corrosion or dirt is an issue, just use a steel brush to clean them. As for the hub-rim surface contact, a steel brush cleaning and wipe down is good to do followed up with a lite coat of anti seize for future ease of removal. Hope this helps.
