JAR1299
I know this subject has been touched on in a few different posts but I am starting one just to find out some info. I have a 2008 Limited with factory subwoofer. I have an aftermarket box I had in my old Explorer. In that box is an 8 in Rockford Fosgate shallow mount sub.I've read on the site here that some people have replaced factory sub with aftermarket while still using the factory inclosure and amp. I have contacted the stereo shop who did the work on my Explorer and one guy said it would work and sound better while another guy said it would sound worse than the factory sub. Now I know if I do this it will not rattle the Edge but I'm just looking for something that will sound a little better...the factory sub distorts when the volume and bass are turned up.So my question is who has done this while still using the factory inclosure and amp?...and how does it sound compared to the factory speaker? I'm not talking door speakers....just the sub.
wannabang
It could potentially sound better, but I don't think it will sound that much worse. It's mostly related to the factory enclosure, which is plastic (right?). Wood would make a better enclosure, but a direct swap shouldn't hurt sound quality I wouldn't think.
