fredro
I hate the fact that I can't turn off my interior dome light. All my other cars past and present have always had the option of shutting off the interior lights. Am I missing something? At night, it's so annoying when the light goes on every time a door is open. I feel like I'm under a "spotlight" lol. I own a 2013 edge sport awd. How can i fix this without removing a bulb or fuse?
candurin
You can't... Pull the bulb.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I hear ya. I am used to being able to dim or turn off the interior lights at will. This is probably another "passive" security feature. The control might be buried somewhere in the MFT menu, or accessible only to techs, short of bulb removal of course. triplenik
The lights not being able to be turned off and the glovebox not having a lock on it are the two features I have never been without in a car.
candurin
... and the glovebox not having a lock on it ... You can always get the latch with lock mechanism from the mkx and install it in the edge. You just then need to have it keyed for your ford key. Solves one of your concerns... candurin
Omar, Read my last post again. You buy the LOCKABLE mkx version and swap that out on your edge. That solves one problem. The other (lighting), you're on your own. Sorry for not being clear enough.
ls973800
I have seen the glove box light and switch for the MKX, should be able to install that also on the Edge. Won't be the ambient color if you have that feature, but simple enough to install one. https://www.google.com/search?q=lincoln+mkx+glove+box+light&client=firefox-a&hs=gh9&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=vzIeU8uZI4KE2wX1i4HwDQ&ved=0CD4QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=551#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=QA3ygmJJ98EmBM%253A%3BkwtS_5GEfhUvZM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthumbs1.ebaystatic.com%252Fm%252Fm2Fjk_7hj7fegeeIsRSm37Q%252F140.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fstores.ebay.com%252FTasca-OEM-Parts%252FGlove-box-%252F_i.html%253F_fsub%253D3263808016%3B140%3B121

I have an MKX, and it does NOT have a locking glovebox! It would be nice to have one. Gary C. Seger
No you can't be able to turn off the dome light but you can pull it out for sometime. It's just because of security reason. I also don't like it, it's annoying.
akirby
I don't quite understand how being to see in the dark to start the vehicle is annoying, but to each his own.
fredro
The fact that you don't have the option to turn it off or on is the annoying part. I personally don't want the light on every time the door is opened. I should have the option.
akirby
On my 2013 Fusion I do have that option, even though I've never used it. It will probably show up in the 2015 Edge.

predapio
Just take out the middle bulb. Takes literally less than 30 seconds! lol My answer exactly. I love people who wont help themselves when given a solution.
fredro
but the solution creates another problem. i know i can easily remove the bulb...obviously. but if i do that, i won't have the front interior lights on at all, which is also an inconvenience. i want the light on when i want it on, and off when i want it off. not always on, or always off. thats where ford dropped the ball. they don't give you the option. so your solution...isnt quite a solution. who wants to fiddle with removing bulbs every time you want the light on or off. imagine you had to do that in your house, bedroom, bathroom, etc. removing bulbs are an inconvenience...period. not a solution in my eyes. a simple switch like all other cars would have been common sense and a simple remedy. Yes it would. Another simple remedy is to just leave the light on all the time. It's not like the light hurts anything and most people want it on all the time anyway. antnewyork
On my 2011 Edge, I pulled down the front dome light assembly (very easy), there's a 3 wire connector to the lights. -Ground -Dome/Door light -Push Button Map lights I cut the dome/door wire and put a switch on it. I mounted it through the headliner, in front of the light, near the windshield. You can mount a switch anywhere if you want to rn the wires.. The same can be done with the rear dome light. the push button map lights still work normally. the rear cargo lights still go on with the doors.
wisdomsp
I agree with Fredro! There should be an interior override, like on most cars. In a tailgating situation, you wouldn't want the interior lights on the entire time you have the lift gate open. If you can find the wire feeding the light a switch would be relatively easy to install. I wonder if the wiring for the rear light is fed down the center of the head liner or does it run up the side pillar?
PaulSchott
You must really love your car if your only complaining about the dome light. Thanks Ford for a great ride. Boo to the engineer who didn't think of a dome light off switch. It wouldn't be very hard to wire in a switch.

Boo to the engineer who didn't think of a dome light off switch. It wouldn't be very hard to wire in a switch. i don't love my edge, nor do i hate it. i like certain things of the car, and i dislike certain things as well. for the price, its a bit of a let down. also, the dome light isn't my ONLY complaint of the car. i have a couple of issues with other things, not a huge deal. but again, i wish i was "in love" with the car, and I'm not. I'm getting something new soon enough, and ill either trade this one in, or i'll hand it down to the mrs., or one of my kids. they seem to like the car more than i do anyway! lol
