Racerb0y Posted March 17, 2013 Report Share Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) ok, it has begun, Im not surprised, of course after my warranty, unless somehow its covered under power train etc. Well, just recently, (59,000.00 miles now) my driver door ajar alert will popup, of course the door is shut, I have to on a daily basis reshut the door to close out the alert, this is intermittent, I know the problem is becoming worse, it will occur during the drive of the car, the usual stuff, when the door is ajar, lites come on, the tone, door locks will not lock. I know as well that something is really going on as I shut the car off, go ahd and remote lock the car, the car horn beeps twice, its supposed to beep once and then lock, otherwise, the dome lites remain on for over 5 minutes, and the car will not lock. Im thinking its a sensor in the door? what the hell failed on my Ford tough car? Any feedback is much appreciated. To answer my own question, went out and looked at the driver door, I found 3 Phillips screws, door cvr does begin to pop off, but the upper rite portion of the door has something there that will not allow it to pop off, afraid to pry or begin to apply pressure, feels like it will break. fishx65 Posted March 17, 2013 Report Share Posted March 17, 2013 It's the door ajar switch getting stuck. Unfortunatley, it's part of the door latch assembly which is located inside the door panel. I know when I had this problem with a 2004 Taurus many owners had decent luck spraying lubricant through the door latch from the outside. It worked for me a few times but would always come back. Ford has had this problem with many of it's vehicles for a long time but does not seem very interested in fixing it or recalling. Obviously this is an issue for these cars. The week I drove off the lot with my new car, the hatch latch had to be replaced. Ford should have a recall on latches. Now my sunroof won't close. Really! The real kicker is, it did it a couple of times before my warranty was out and I thought, "hmm...that's weird...I could swear I shut it the first time", reshut my door, and went on my way. Now I'm at almost 40,000 miles and the sensor is stuck, won't go off at all no matter how many times I slam the door. I tried lubricating it, flipping the latch back and forth, its a no-go folks. I called Ford Customer Support, who in turn urged me to tell you all to make a report that can in turn be escelated to the engineers. It is the engineers decision whether to recall or not. My guess, by the sheer number of incidences I have found with the same problem, is that they aren't too worried about recalling something that won't cause injuries or lawsuits, but it's worth a try. 1-800-392-3673 The customer service girl was very nice and said she would be happy to field phonecalls and escelate reports to the engineers all day if she has too. evadsun Posted July 29, 2013 Report Share Posted July 29, 2013 I have the solution.. I own a 2011 ford edge limited. the door ajar light started coming on and then gradually it would stay on.. I have a friend who was a Ford mechanic... He told me to spray the door latch with brake cleaner....yes, not WD40.. WD40 is oily and will attract dirt and make it worse. Use braked cleaner. So I sprayed the crap out of it with the brake cleaner and it worked. the light went out.. You do have to spray it periodically to keep it clean. EdgeeOne Posted October 17, 2013 Report Share Posted October 17, 2013 Mine had 24k on it when the door ajar switch /latch started malfunctioning - first occasionally - then by another 800 miles it was steady enough to take it to the dealer.. they said they weren't familiar with a problem such as that- turns out they had to order a new latch and it was back ordered.. what does that tell you ? then when they took the door panel off they saw the cracks in the drivers glass and did tell me there was a TSB on it. (see TSB list elsewhere on this site or https://www.ownersite.com/tsb/tsbs.cfm/2011/FORD/EDGE/) Then they told me some of the door panel retainers ? broke- anyone have this? 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This has been a recurring issue with almost every Ford vehicle that uses the sensor in the latch. My wife's 2011 Edge just started doing it at 39k miles. We have had several cars with the issue and spraying brake cleaner in ther usually cures the problem. However, since we have the extended warranty - it's going back to the dealership to get it replaced. This type of aggravation on a well maintained vehicle is just wrong. It's bad enough the "My Touch" debacle was never resolved, but this is down right annoying as you try to drive with your "Door ajar". I'm sure slamming the door several times to get it to go off is real good for the vehicle not to mention when you park the car and the battery slowly gets drained each time. Once it is out of warranty @ 100k miles, then I will do the brake clean, until then, to the dealership.... biohaz Posted November 27, 2013 Report Share Posted November 27, 2013 I have the 2013 Ford Edge SEL, Past Month and half i have been getting this Door Ajar light, So I went to the dealer and straight face it's not an issue, bring it back when the light comes back. So I got home and read your forum no surprise alot of people having this issue. So I called Ford Canada and put a complain about East Court Ford & Lincoln. So next day I get a call from the Service Manager to bring my car in so I drop it off, my car sits at the dealer ship all day i call around 5PM and they tell me they don't have the part. So I ask the Service Manager why would you ask me to drop the truck off if you didn't had the parts, makes up excuses and then asks me to drop it off again next day so I drop it off get it fixed only been 48 hours i will let you guys know if they actually fixed it or blew air into the damn latches to fix it. I stopped into the dealership today but they were no help. Did not have time and said it would be an put of pocket expense. The problem started last year ('11 Ltd, AWD, 42k miles), disappeared in the spring, summer, and fall, but then got progressively worse once the temp's went below freezing. No amount of hard/soft closing, wd-40, electronic cleaner spray, and other fixes would work. I bit the bullet and went to my dealership. While the service mgr mentioned that there was a TSB, I forgot to ask him for the reference #. I am far from handy, so long story short I paid about $340 for the repair. I'm assuming that Ford is recommending this because the replacement part is on back order. So far it is working but they still charged me my $100 ESP deductible. Todd The appointment went just as they told me. It took about an hour and a half. The staff at Ford of Uniontown is always very friendly and helpful! Fortunately, I don't have to go there much to get things fixed, but because of the professionalism, I go there for routine maintenance. I think I will try the brake cleaner until I can find time and take time off from work just to get this fixed. Such a well maintained vehicle yet so frustrating. The door ajar light kept coming on and at first I thought I had developed a weakness in my left arm and was not closing it right. Then it happened more and more and then it just didn't go off. Fortunately I had just gotten the extended warranty, so it didn't cost me anything. However, both my keys were also misbehaving as they were not always opening the door lock and not beeping when i left the keys in the car and locked myself out twice. Turns out the battery was dying - my car is a 2011, bought new and has about 15000 miles on it. Somehow I don't think the battery just up and died on a three year old car. So I am going to write to Ford about that, as I have a feeling it was run down by the door ajar light. There should be a recall on it though, as the doors don't lock while it is lit up.
