I have mentioned in a couple other threads about a purple wire I needed to connect to for my rear puddle light instillation. This wire, in my '11 Limited, is the power for the side mirror puddle lights. It will supply power whenever the car is unlocked or when the doors are open. This might be a good option for your sill as they will not stay on all the time. Here is a pic of the wire:

Hope this helps.

When I first joined this forum in July of last year, I read just about every topic and post I could find. I recall one post about the instructions which came with the lighted sill plates being wrong for newer models. Somewhere along the line from what I remember, Ford had said to connect to a grey wire in the instructions if I recall. Later models were having problems with this wire, and as noted by Cellbine, the purple wire was then the one to use.

I tried finding the old posts which actually had pictures of the instructions which came with the sills, but couldn't find it. From what I recall, one of the wires was also found behind the A frame if you removed the trim piece? I think that was for the grey wire?

Hopefully I didn't confuse matters too badly, but I do recall the post concerning the change in which wire to use. Perhaps he got an older stock set of sills which will work on the 2012, but being older, they had the incorrect instructions?

Is - I must have missed those posts your referring too, but some wiring has been known to differ between production years.

Joshua - The wire is located in the footwells on both the driver and passenger sides.

Cellbine, back in January you and I posted to Buffaloedge when he was asking about installing some under dash LED lights. There is information in the post about what wires were suggested he use, and some pictures by him of where he was finding power for his project. You had posted the picture with the purple wire, and I had posted a link to the illuminated sill install instruction. Here is Buffaloedge's post

Here is a link to the sill plate installation questions. Reply #2 in this link has the downloadable instructions from Ford saying to use the grey/violet wire for the sill plates. Reply #4 is from an owner who watched the dealer install his sill plates and they had to use the purple wire (he thought it was purple and grey according to his post).
