Exhaust/Intake questions...

Okay... So I think I've done everything I can apparence wise for my Sport.... Black Gloss taped the chrome strip over the grille, red calipers, new custom headlights with HID's, red/black emblems to match the car and window tint of course.... Not much more I can/want to do with it.... But now, I'm getting to the real meat and potatoes of cars, the performance. :headspin:

I promised myself I wouldn't get into that with my Edge... I have a 95' Cobra I can get into if I want to go fast, but lately I've been thinking fuck it, why not?

Is the air intake REALLY worth changing? This question goes out to people who have already put intakes on their Edge.... Is there really a noticeable change in the speed? If not, I don't think I'm going to even bother.

EXHAUST!- I want Cherry Bombs.... No if's and's or but's about it! :salute: I have a catback flowmaster system on my Mustang, and I love the soun... Although it IS hooked up to a 5.0 worked up V8, so of course it's going to sound loud and mean. But if I'm going to put an exhaust system on my Edge I want to go big or don't go at all, and from my experience (please correct me if I'm wrong) Cherry Bombs provide a much louder sound than anything else out there. That being said, here is my problem; I can't find Cherry Bomb exhaust systems for the edge! I see youtube videos and in other places that other people have Cherry Bomb exhaust systems on their Edge, but I've searched Jegs and google but can't seem to find the system anywhere. Anyone know where I can get them?

i think you are wasting your time, I use my Edge for going out on the town and running errands and it looks good doing it. If I want to go fast I also have an 03 Cobra and a 2013 SHO. Those cars were meant to go fast not the Edge. Save your money and throw it into that Cobra.

to put cherry bombs on the ford you have to custom bend and weld the pipe yourself. thats how I did mine. but i found out that the edge is quite already so I just replaced the mufflers with pipe and kept the resonator on. I suggest doing this

Well... Your SHO only has 55, more horsepower than the Edge Sport... So that car wasn't exactly "made to go fast"

Anyway, my Cobra has already been dyno'ed at 887hp.... I don't need to put any more money into it.

I'm not trying to get the edge to be a monster, but what I am looking for is for it to have a nice growl to it. I enjoy cars that have the sound of balls between its legs. The intake is just for fun because its easy and cheap to do. Far from a waste of money, its just making it sound 200% better and a bit faster as a bonus. Why not?

You gotta factor in weight if you are going to compare HP between. different cars.

Of course. But the edge isn't something you'd compare the sho to.... But a v6 camaro would keep up with it.... A low level v8 mustang/camaro/vette/challeneger would destroy it.... And the sho is the top level of its vehicle. Point isn't, sho wasn't meant to "go fast" its a technological nice car that is "quick" but with decent fuel economy for what it is.

I think you might be surprised exactly how fast the Gen4 SHOs can go. The main difference being they are tunable and have quite a bit of aftermarket support, despite that gen SHO having been out for less time than the Edge.

We have not really tested the limits of the engine or the transmission in the Edge. One person on this forum claims to have turbo'd their vehicle. One vendor has displayed such a vehicle at SEMA. Whoopydeedo.

In that sense, it makes me think Ford turned the Edge into a "Grandma" car. Just buy it and drive it. The engine bay certainly doesn't leave too much room for change, especially if you still want to do regular maintenance yourself afterwards.

i think you are highly underestimating the new SHO, when it was stock I stayed neck and neck with stock corvettes from 99-04. I now have a livernois tune, exhaust and intake, all said the tune was suppose to bring the HP up to 450-480, I'm not sure how accurate or close,to those numbers it came to, the TQ supposedly will be in the same ballpark maybe higher from their claims. I haven't had the car dynoed and haven't looked into an AWD dyno near me. I do know one thing, this thing has to be hitting low 12's now. It feels just as fast as my Cobra and I use to hit low 12's constantly when I took it to the track.

As for HP claims of the edge sport and all edge engines, there really isn't a considerable amount of difference between the test times of the three engine levels. Not enough to make you go WOW I need the sport engine because it blows the other two away. I would however like to see a tune come out for the 2.0 ecoboost, I know there are talks about one being made, but for the focus ST or whatever they are calling it. From what I read they were talking about a 350hp with upwards of 400 TQ for the 2.0 ecoboost. This would definitely but the ecoboost ahead of the sport in track times.

Not underestimating. I'm sure its quick. But no one (with a real car brain) sits there and goes "I want to buy a fast car. I want go buy a car for speed. Im going to get a SHO." People buy that car for its combination of extremely nice style, and all the amazing technology packed in it (that all high model Ford's have), and the added bonus that the performance is there.

Point being if there are cars (mustang, camaro, challenger etc) whose lowest models can keep up with the top of the top model (SHO) its not a car that you buy for the purose of "going fast"

i bought the SHO for the reasons you named as well as the fact I could throw a few dollars at it and Make it just as fast as any higher model camaro, mustang or even base corvettes and other vehicles in the category. People that know what a SHO is already know they are quick 4 door cars. But it really surprises people when you blow by them and they can't catch up. I kind of like that feeling, you might not understand if you are thinking only mustangs and cars like that should be bought to go fast. I looked at the Cadillac CTS-V but couldn't justify spending 70 grand on it. By they way you can even buy that in a station wagon body and blow the doors off a lot of cars out there. I think you need to stop being so narrow minded, also what kind of times are you running in your Cobra? Who built you roll cage and what tires are you running in the rear? Also what gears and rear end?

Magnaflow has 2 kits for the Edge - per Steeda's site

263-16871 - Magnaflow Exhaust Kit - AWD
263-16750 - Magnaflow Exhaust Kit - FWD

Saw a couple of videos on YooToob with the 16871 version, sounded pretty good. Low enough sound not to sound ricer. Best deal I have found is on AutoZone so far.

People claim performance gains (power/fuel economy) from this product, but caveat emptor.

I'm not taking sides with the SHO versus Mustang here. The Mustang is a lighter sports car designed for speed, where as the Taurus SHO starts as a family sedan and becomes a straight-line-fast Sedan. However, with a decent tune, I'd bet you can close that horsepower gap quickly and have a stronger motor than the 5.0 hands down. And a tune that would probably cost less than $1000 at that.

But power to weight is the key, that Mustang will go faster with less power. Period.

I like the SHO, ALOT, my friend has one and it's fun for its size. But even the Charger Hemi ties the SHO when both are stock, and those are both full size sedans with AWD (available in the Charge, standard on SHO). Throw a V8 with Similar power in a smaller car and you're leaving the SHO in the rear-view mirror.

And the warranty is a valid point, KingMike.

My point exactly. Ive said multiple times the SHO is gorgeous, and quick for what it is. But not a car that you buy to go fast, which is what the argument was. And true, a good tune and you're looking at over 400hp, but the torque and power that an equal or higher V8 has isn't there; that is the biggest problem. Plus, if I had a V8 mustang and my buddy with an SHO got a tune and is now equal to me, what am I going to do?.... Get a tune, and the SHO has the same problem all over again. Anything someone says they're going to do to their car, the other car can turn around and do the same thing. Either way, like I said, the SHO would need close to 100 horsepower more than the V8 mustang to (maybe) beat it. The lack of torque and power is what keeps it from being a "Fast Car"

And yes the charger HEMI destroys the SHO. Big power difference due to a much bigger engine. This will be the case with any V8 equal or more HP than the SHO. Just fact.

Warranty voiding ends the whole debate alone. If you want a fast car with no protection of a warranty then save yourself about 32,000 and buy a 95 Trans Am or an Iroc, youll have the same speed and more power. (Good luck with an technological car like the SHO with no warranty....)
