cmillz1331
I installed HIDs in my fogs about 6 months ago and I haven't had any problem with them until now...they just failed to work one day and haven't worked since for about 2 weeks now. I checked the fuse and its fine and there is no relay in the power box for the fogs either. Don't know whats going on really and don't want to get ripped off by the dealer...any thoughts? Thanks
Dingo
Can you use a meter and see if there's power at the factory plug?
cmillz1331
Can you use a meter and see if there's power at the factory plug? You mean at the light switch?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I think Dingo means the factory harness plug where you attach the HID wiring for the lamps.
Dingo
Yeah, that.
cmillz1331
Yeah, that. Oh okay. Yeah I can do that, the hardest part will be getting underneath the car....will try it out wednesday. Thanks!
cmillz1331
Well I tested the power at the factory plug and there is definitely power there. BUT power does not change when the fog light switch is on or off, so I'm thinking its a problem with the wiring or the headlight switch...having some other weird problems with the edge so hopefully taking it in on saturday
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Good luck with it!
cmillz1331
So they told me that there was a problem with my HID system and that the wiring all looks good so I now have to replace the factory bulbs to make sure the system works...if so, I'm done with these HIDs and will probably just go with sylvania silverstars
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Did they check the headlight switch for continuity as well? May be time for another opinion ...
cmillz1331
Did they check the headlight switch for continuity as well? May be time for another opinion ... I honestly have no idea...I was told that the electrical system was checked and there was no problem with the factory system
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
"What? You have HIDs? Well, we've found ourselves the problem, now haven't we? (All-knowing nods)" I'd take it elsewhere. It is entirely possible that some feedback from your HID kit is causing a burp, but they should be able to figure out where. Maybe you SHOULD return the lights to stock before that second opinion. Just so you know whether the fogs work at all.
cmillz1331
I am returning the fogs to stock tmrw (wednesday) afternoon to see if those even work. If not, I am going to take it somewhere else....at least they didn't charge me for the half hour check that they did!
cmillz1331
So the fogs are back to stock bulbs and system and still no power...so its either a serious issue or just a problem with the headlight switch (even though it works for everything else). But I'm not too worried about not having fogs at this moment, my headlights will be good enough. I'll have this checked out if more problems arise or when timing is better
