thirdgenlxi
Well I've been wanting some sort of navigation since my blind ass can't see ANYTHING at night, or during the day rather either (can't see street signs or anything.... seriously my vision is horrible). Anyways, I just had the regular old 6 disk radio, but a buddy of mine works at LKQ (I used to work there with him a few years back) and had bought this nav unit for his '07 Expedition he was driving around at the time. He put the stock radio back in when he sold it, and still had this one sitting around.... ended up getting it for super cheap (waaaaay less than these same units are going for on ebay). I would have liked the '09+ unit, but hey I can't afford to be picky, lol. Programming was a bit of an adventure... it was originally out of an '08 F-150/Mark LT according to the part #, and it turned on and worked when I first plugged it in, but stuff like the steering wheel controls and whatnot would not work. I couldn't reprogram it using my own module config data of course cuz it was just the regular radio, so I tried the as-built data from several '08's but apparently those were different and the IDS wasn't letting me enter the correct as-built data. So I ended up having to go on autotrader and find an '07 Edge with factory nav (ebay had none, only '08+), and it had the VIN listed so I used that to get the as-built data for that one, then go back and start a new session on the IDS using a special functions code that will force as-built data instead of trying to download the current config data from that module when you go to program it. Worked perfectly... programming was successful, all steering wheel controls and line-in jack work perfectly, Sirius and all works fine too. I still need to buy a GPS antenna so the nav isn't working just yet. Also getting an error message about the nav DVD, saying it's the wrong one or something like that. Not sure if the discs vary by vehicle or if it had been previously updated to a new DVD and programming it with as-built put it back to an earlier level or what (has the 6P DVD in it). Or if the GPS antenna missing would have anything to do with it either (prob not). So still trying to figure that one out. But otherwise it's great! I'm not sure if I'm going crazy or what but it actually seems like it sounds better too.... who knows Anyways... before New unit Edited February 3, 2013 by thirdgenlxi
ls973800
I love when people are able to do something that everyone else says or thinks it's not possible! Of course you still have to get the nav to work, correct? Hopefully it is something with the GPS or disc.

Yea I've gotta pick up a GPS antenna.... this was kind of a last minute thing, wasn't really expecting him to have one right away (I asked my buddy if they had one at LKQ [a very large auto recycler, btw] where he works, this was his personal one). And he went ahead and sent it out, didn't even have a chance to pick up an antenna, lol. It's easy enough to get back out though I'll just throw that in whenever I get it. Hopefully that's all it is. Guy at work has a mustang with the same nav unit in it so I'm gonna see if I can borrow his disc to try and see what happens
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Looks good in there. Rooting for 100% success!
thirdgenlxi
Well figured I'd update this..... so as it turns out, the unit he sent me ended up having a bad DVD drive (you could see the unit had been dropped) which is why it wouldn't read the disc. I asked my buddy that I got it from about it, and he said if we couldn't get this one to work he'd just swap it out for another one, which is what we ended up doing.... he got another one from LKQ where he works at, and just wrote this one off as defect (but told me to keep it and do whatever I want with it, lol). So I got the new one in that he just sent me, and it works great! It's a year older, '07 instead of '08, and had to reprogram it again as it was for something with a rear DVD system, but still new enough that it has the line-in input so that's good. Anyways.... couple pics. I believe you're supposed to be able to do voice commands too, but far as I know I don't have a microphone.... gotta look into that Oops..... don't think I was supposed to find that, LOL :hide: It works real good.... tried it on my way home from work. So I'm happy
Dingo
I had the same unit in an 07 sport trac. There was no sync or voice commands. I had to add an external bluetooth kit.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Liking the gauges you pulled up, Jared. Any idea how far that capability goes? I am interested in AFR, Trans Temp, Engine Temp, all the standard stuff. Also, does it have capability for auditory speed confirmation? I find that often in traffic/accelerating into traffic merges, I don't get a chance to visually monitor speed, so a low volume auditory confirmation would be really helpful. Keep my eyes on traffic and the road, not the gauges.

Ahhh alright.... figured there was prob something you had to add to it. Oh well no biggie Liking the gauges you pulled up, Jared. Any idea how far that capability goes? Keep my eyes on traffic and the road, not the gauges. As far as I know this is about it, unless there's another hidden menu that I don't know about (which there very well may be). This is in the developer menu, there's a whole bunch of crap you can mess with (half of which I have no clue what it is, lol), but this is "view sensor data" and as far as I know it's just the choices you see here. I'm still messing around with it though. This menu is typically used to turn off the driving restriction for the nav (it locks it out once you're moving so you can't mess with it, you can disable that in here) but still messing around with it. For the speed confirmation.... I don't think there's anything in here, BUT I was poking around the programmable parameters on the IDS the other day and I remember seeing something about an overspeed warning. I didn't mess around with it at all so I'm not sure if you can set it wherever you want or what. I'll mess around with that and see what it does and let ya know..... I drove my Accord to work today so can't try it out today unless I find a customers car to mess with, lol.... I'll prob drive my Edge tomorrow though so I'll try it then There's also an engineering test mode on the instrument cluster where you can go through a bunch of different stuff too.... again half of it I have no clue what it is, but there is a digital tach readout, digital speed, digital coolant temp (though it's in Celsius), digital battery volts, and a few other things
Dingo
I used this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Parrot-Hands-Free-Car-Kit-Bluetooth-3200-LS-COLOR-/150996971922?pt=US_Bluetooth_Handsfree_Car_Kits&hash=item23281ef192
Waldo
The overspeed warning is required for Middle East markets. It's just a beep that goes off when you hit a certain speed, I think it's 120kph. It has nothing to do with the Nav system, just about every Ford has the option to turn it on.
