dummptyhummpty
I'm trying not to mess with the sound system in my Edge, but I've been reviewing the installs on here and was curious how people have been tapping the output on the factory amp. Is there a harness that one can buy or are people just cutting the wires? I did that on my BMW, but won't do that on this car.
Vandussm
I was also wondering if you could add an amp to the factory radio on a 2013 edge.

akirby
You can tap the speaker wires for speaker level outputs or use an adapter on the back of the head unit to get line out.
Dingo
Or in the passenger's side cargo area if it's the Sony system.
dummptyhummpty
So are you just taping them with wire taps or cutting and splicing?
Dingo
I soldered and taped.
dummptyhummpty
You can tap the speaker wires for speaker level outputs or use an adapter on the back of the head unit to get line out. Does the adapter allow you to tap without cutting wires? If I tap at the rear of the headunit, will I lose the sync voice over? akirby
Yes - it pigtails in between the factory harness and head unit - no cutting. And you don't lose any of the head unit functionality including sync and voice commands and steering wheel controls.

dummptyhummpty
Try crutchfield. Thanks, but this doesn't seem to apply to my Edge. I reviewed the wiring diagrams that have been posted on this forum and it looks like the sync signal and balance control is done by the AMP. I have located the connectors used on the wiring harness and amp, but I'm not sure how easy it will be to obtain them.
shoulinpanther
I used a LOC had it all installed today using the wiring harness in the frond drivers kick panel and everything works like stock. As a matter of fact besides my box in the back and of course the copious amounts of base you would never know that anything aftermarket was installed.
