Auto Climate Won't Shut Off After 5.2.1 Update

Recommended Posts

I don't think I am going crazy, but I may be wrong! My 2013 Limited with Auto climate would always allow me to touch the Auto button when it was lit and it would shut off the auto function, but leave the climate button right below it lit. Air would still flow in from the vents and I could control the amount by manually setting the fan speed. So in essence, the Auto button responded to manually touching it to turn on or off.

Several days ago I installed 5.2.1 and noticed yesterday that the Auto, Climate, and A/C button were lit. I shut off the A/C and then tried shutting off the Auto, since I wanted fresh exterior air but didn't care if it was controlled to a certain temperature. No response from the Auto button even after numerous times of punching it. I heard it beep, but nothing to shut it off. I found the only way I could get the Auto button to shut off was to manually raise or lower my fan speed, then the button would shut off. Even going into the Climate quadrant and trying to shut off Auto on that screen had no impact.

5.2.1 bug or a defective climate module? Or has it always operated that way and for the last 6 months I never noticed? Don't really think so, because I recall many time shutting off the auto button by just pushing it.

Every one I've ever known has always been that way.... the auto button turns the function on only, if you want it to do something else you have to tell it what you want it to do (aka manual). I've never seen one where pushing the auto button turned it off.... mine is an older version ('07) but still auto climate control, and if it's in auto and I push auto again it doesn't do anything other than stay right where it's at. If you want it to do another function, you have to give it another function to do... fan speed, vent direction, recirc on/off, etc

The AUTO climate function on my MKX has always behaved like you describe, regardless of which SYNC/MyFord-MyLincoln TOUCH update version has been installed, the latest of which is V3.5.1.

From the 2013 Edge Owner's Guide - AUTO: Press the button to turn on fully automatic operation. Select the desired temperature using the temperature control. The system automatically determines fan speed, air distribution, A/C operation, and outside or recirculated air, to heat or cool the vehicle to maintain the selected temperature.

The control design doesn't deactivate AUTO by pushing the AUTO button a second time, whether on the center stack or on the MyFord TOUCH screen.

Full deactivation of AUTO occurs only via the Climate TOUCH screen by manually selecting a fan speed setting and air distribution path.

Good luck!

Well, from 'full' auto, I touch floor vent , fan indicator area switches to auto (full auto mode goes off) but the next time I start the vehicle, the floor and auto fan are not engaged.

jimmkx2k11: I understand your '11 MKX is running SYNC update V3.5.1, the same as my '12 MKX.

I have my Climate settings just as you describe.

Several days ago, with the engine running and Climate on Full AUTO with center stack switch pad lit, I used the MyLincoln TOUCH screen to set the air distribution path to Floor, which caused the Auto descriptor to appear only above plus-minus fan speed on the screen and the AUTO control light on the center stack to be extinguished, consistent with the photos I previously posted.

Earlier today when I drove my MKX -- and just now after reading your post, I verified -- that climate setting is sticking/enduring and does not require any re-setting in my MKX after the vehicle is restarted.

I cannot say if there is a difference in the endurance of a Climate setting adjustment made with the engine running, versus the same adjustment made with the engine not running & MyLincoln TOUCH activated using the Entertainment power button beneath the Volume slider control.

But, I made all my Climate adjustments with the engine running and the Climate settings stick/endure whenever I restart my MKX.

Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for verifying.

Do you by chance remember if your climate unit was on or off when you performed the 3.5.1 update?

Jimmkx2k11: Sorry, I don't specifically recall that.

In the Owner Guide, relating to Climate function and use of Remote Start in moderate temperatures, Climate settings are supposed to revert to settings from the previous Ignition-on cycle.

This shows -- as all of us expect -- that Climate settings should be able to endure from previous use and should not revert to some default setting that we don't enjoy.

As an experiment, I just now did a hard reset by pulling the negative battery cable for 10 minutes, then re-energized the system and started the vehicle. SYNC did a full reboot and on the TOUCH Screen, the Climate settings defaulted to Auto fan speed with face-level vents.

After that, I manually set Climate to floor-level distribution and shut off & restarted vehicle. Climate setting did not endure after restart.

I did a Master Reset via the TOUCH Screen and shut down & restarted the vehicle. Climate setting defaulted to full Off. I adjusted Climate setting and shut off vehicle and restarted. Climate setting did not endure and returned to default full Off.

As I use the vehicle, I'll report back on what I hope will be progress, and not my so-far setback in Climate function and return of the dreaded Power Saver screen.

In the mean time, I feel your pain!

c_bova: Appreciate your clarification on Remote Start/Climate settings. Found that setting as you described and checked the box using left-side steering wheel controls.

Jimmkx2k11: Drove MKX the 10-miles minimum, as recommended in Owner Guide for reteaching computer after a battery disconnect or battery replacement.

TOUCH screen Battery Saver message at engine shutdown disappeared after vehicle was driven & sat in garage overnight.

Upon engine start-up, Climate settings now default to AUTO on TOUCH screen, but Center Stack AUTO control pad light is not lit.

Peculiar thing is TOUCH screen will show prior Climate settings with ignition power on before attempting engine start, but Climate immediately switches to the AUTO default when engine starts.

Good luck!

I don't really use remote start but I set Heater/AC to 'last setting'. This did not help.

Thanks
